Slightly wider tires than OEM?

Am thinking of buy a new set of tires for the 20” wheels. We get a TON of icy roads where I love. I don’t want to get a dedicated set of winter tires, and instead I will get an ultra performance all-season tires.

Would it be a problem if I go just one size up in width for my new tires? For the look and maybe a bit for snow/winter. Whether it helps or not, forget it, but do you all see any issue? I.e.: 295 instead of 285… .or 275 instead of 265, etc.

Thanks!.

What size rims? Seeing as how my m-sport wheels have an OEM size of 275/40/22 and 315/35/22, you shouldn't have any problems. It may throw off your spedo ever so slightly, but you can use a tire calculator to figure out what that ratio is. Probably less than 3% if I had to guess; so not meaningful.

You might want to verify the width of your wheels, just to ensure they can accommate a bigger size. That said, I'd be surprised if they couldn't.

The stock 20" should be a 275/50/20 so moving to a 285 series like a 285/50/20 tire shouldn't be a problem. That being said, you should know that skinnier tires are actually preferred for winter/snow tires in most cases.

I recently picked up the wider (European) 740m wheels from G05 classifieds for my X5 to run staggered. My rears are 305 as offered in Europe - Michelins AS from Costco. Hope this helps.

If you were planning to run dedicated winter tires then you should go skinner not wider.
