I'm in Australia and I went from an x5 to an x7
37 years old, no accidents.
I was quite disappointed that my premium went up a lot when I got the x7. It was $86 aud a month and now it's $165aud

39, NYC, $1500/6 months. X740i is our only car, but we do have home, personal articles, a couple million in umbrella. And its a lease which I understand means a small premium. GEICO.

$300/600 liability and $500 deductible.

When I switched cars, I noticed both the liability and the comprehensive went up, so I guess they are pricing in higher damage the X7 can do to the other car by being so much bigger?

I was very worried when I took out the insurance, so I took the biggest package on purpose. It even included theft and fire insurance. When I was looking for my insurance company, I decided to consult my friend. He advised me the insurance company Youi, where he insured his car. And I have never once regretted my decision. So it sounds like you should get your new car insured. It's better to make sure you don't have to pay ten times as much later.

Similar to others, I have cars bundled with home and umbrella. All three cars cost ~2000 annually. The X7 is ~900 of it. 500K/500K with 1000 deductible. This will go up considerably as I will be adding two teen drivers next year.

I'm in MO and have 2 teenage drivers, one did have an accident, so my insurance for 5 cars is now $6700/year. The X7 is $2132/yr and my sports car is $1778/yr. My oldest son's car is $1442/yr and my 16 yr old is $910/yr but his is a 2002 Firebird.

Good times.

House, X7 50i and 530e - all together $3,150 per year ($1000 for home-insurance, and ~$2200/yr for both the X7 and the 530e. The X7 alone is ~$1,140 per year.)

2019 X7 50i "120K MSRP" is $95 per month (Full coverage, max'd all coverage options, Two drivers, $500 deductible)
2019 530e "~75K MSRP" is $90 per month (full coverage, max'd all coverage options, Two drivers, $500 deductible)

How do you get to $3150 if you’re only paying $185 per month total?

Before I traded our 2021 X5 45e it was $745 for 6 months with a 250 deductible for both comprehensive and collision. The 2022 X7 we are at $945 for 6 months, 100/300/100. Elephant Insurance.

As indicated in my answer, that number also includes the house homeowner insurance which is about a ~$1000 per year.

Almost useless to compare this. Too many variables that impact the costs: driving record, age, zip code, other cars, packages with homeowners, umbrella coverage, etc.

For example, in my zip code I pay ~$2000/year. If I went a town over, bigger city, etc, I’d be closer to $4,000/year.
