Verify latest iDrive software version
Hello all. I am trying to determine if I have the latest iDrive software version installed on my recently purchased certified pre-owned 2021 BMW X7 M50i. I assumed since it was a CPO, that the dealership would have automatically updated to the latest software version, but you know what they saw what happens when you assume! I am not having any specific problems. I am just trying to be proactive.
When I go to the My BMW app -> Info -> Settings, it says it is configured to download automatically. If I go to My BMW app -> Vehicle Status -> Services -> Remote Software Upgrade, it says "the software of your BMW X7 M50i is up to date". So again I assume I am up to date? I did some google searching about how to determine my current iDrive software version. The article I found said to use the BMW Driver's Guide app -> Vehicle Information -> Notes -> Information -> scroll to bottom. It shows 03/21 with a bunch of subsequent letters and numbers. I have attached a screen capture. Does anyone know if 03/21 the latest version for a 2021 BMW X7 M50i. That is just two months shy or 2 years old, so the tech geek in me questions if there might be a newer version. |

That is what software was installed at time of vehicle assembly. Your car was no doubt assembled after 3/2021.
The best way to check what the current S/W is installed is by using the iDrive menu. |

The method you followed in your original post is not accurate, or does not give you the software version on your vehicle. I just tried this for all my vehicles, non of them showed accurate software version to the one actually on the car. It even shows two different numbers on two devices (iPhone vs iPad) Taking as an example my X7, I know I have the 11/2022 software. On my iPhone, the method you described showed 7.2021. On my iPad, the same method shows 3.2022. It seems to me that it is just the release date of the BMW guide information itself, not the vehicle or iDrive. As stated by the other member, you can check your idrive software version from the vehicle itself (Car settings) and search for software update window and it should be right there. In Summary, if you find that your X7 has anything older than March 2022, I think you will be missing a few nice improvements if you use drive assist or want the lane keep assist and auto-lane change to work better. I think July 2022 also claimed some engine/turbocharger improvements. Most users are stuck on July 2021 now, while March 2022 offered really great improvements to iDrive-7 vehicles. If you take it to the dealer you can also get 11/2022 which is the most recent and you should be good for the life of the vehicle from here as I won't expect any other major updates for idrive-7 after this Nov/2022 release. |

Thanks everyone for the information, I appreciate it. I did go through the iDrive menu this evening. It reported the installed version was 03/2021.50. I successfully completed the process to search for updates (07/2021.50 was found), downloaded the update, and installed the update. iDrive menu now shows installed version is 07/2021.50. I again selected the option to search for updates and iDrive reports "There is no upgrade currently available for your vehicle.
So does it seem right that the latest iDrive version for a 2021 X7 M50i is v07/2021.50 ? Being a tech guy, 1.5 years old feels old in software years to me. |

When I checked today, iDrive version 07/22.58 was showing as available (OTA). So I downloaded and installed it, upgrading from the 07/21.50 version I had installed last week.
A question: do you find that *some* settings are lost after an iDrive update? Many of my settings/personalizations remained. But a few random ones disappeared - such as temperature settings and B&W speaker speaker colors. May have been others, those are just the ones I noticed. Is losing some settings typical? |

Thank you for confirming. And Yes, I think I lost my seat setting also. It felt 'off' after the update, but I didn't connect the dots in my mind.

I am currently running v11/2022.50 in my 2021 X7 M50i. I got notified today that v03/2023.50 is available to download. I am currently debating on whether to install or wait a while. Currently being discussed here: https://g07.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2024381

OMG, I'm gonna go bald out of frustration.
Just got off the phone with a Service Advisor and he is indicating that BMW warranty will not pay for a manual software upgrade unless I am noticing a problem indicating the idrive software needs updating. Otherwise they continue to believe the Current Version (07/2021.46) is UP TO DATE as indicated by the vehicle and the App. I don't want to pay $313. I even indicated that I believe there are some additional settings in the new version but he says show that there is a problem. (I don't remember new settings that became available?) Please advise on what I can do to convince them to upgrade under warranty before it runs out this month. |

There are issues with 11/2022 version as well. I believe some folks are having gps drift issue with carplay on 11/2022. |
