M50i Lease ending. What next?
I have a 2020 M50i, Black with Shadowline, black wheels, tartufo interior, all the options. I LOVE this car. I have a bunch of kids and run a business with my wife, so the flexibility to pick up kids and fill the car with stuff is so helpful. The combo of luxury, style, and power is amazing.
My lease is up in about 8 months and I'm wondering what to do next? I want something luxurious, powerful, and a little bit unique (at least something you don't see 10 of on your way home from work). Options I've considered: Merc GLS 63 AMG - $20k more than M50i - is it $20k nicer? Defender 110 V8 - I realize not as fast but still unique and I like the look. Is there an SVR model coming? Audi SQ7 or RSQ8 - Not sure it looks cool enough X5M - too similar to the X7 again or is it a wholly different beast? Cayenne GTS? Would love any help from people that have driven/owned any of these other vehicles! Which vehicles am I missing from this list? Last edited by Jefflikescars; 06-16-2021 at 01:49 PM.. |

ALPINA? Or Another M50i in an Individual special paint program?
If you're used to the scale and flexibility of the X7 M50i, anything smaller might not due even if you're considering a X5M.

Based on the list sounds like a third row is not a priority. With that I would say the Defender and RSQ8 work best in being a unique, fun, and luxurious vehicle, although the Defender is more fun in that its a bit more truckish and rugged, rather than fast and sporty like the RSQ8. The Cayenne GTS is also an excellent SUV, although won't be as unique. An X5M is nice, although like the Cayenne, not exactly unique or stand out from the crowd of regular X5's, and the suspension may be too firm coming from an X7 (of course personal preference). If the third row is needed a GLS63 or Alpina XB7 could be good options.

if i was you i'd buy out the lease. every new car that will be in the showroom for the foreseeable future will be missing options that today we take for granted. i was at a land rover dealership just yesterday trying to buy a range rover, and i was told that all range rovers will be missing 360* cameras, other options were also being omitted, but i didn't stay long enough to find out what they were. the cameras are a deal breaker since they enable a lot of the safety features. it's not even an option when placing a custom order. BMWs are missing dynamic handling packages, even the M50i models. mercedes is also removing options.
if my X6 lease was running out, there is no chance i'd spend 30-45k to borrow a car that's actually worse than what i have now. i'd buy out my current car |

Buy the vehicle you have now since it’s ideal for your needs.

Definitely try something different especially when 3rd row not required. I usually get bored after 1-2 years and feel sick to drive the same thing for more than 3 years no matter how amazing the car was. The interiors are pretty close now within the same brand so give yourself a refresh

This might be an option for you. We're likely a year away from the X8 though.

The fun part about what comes next is your opportunity to go test drive all of those cars and see which one you like.
I'll share my plans, given that I have a growing family and was in need of three rows, I was able to time the acquisition of an M 50 I don't have it work out well. I signed up for a three-year lease, which will allow me to work up towards in Alpina XB7 between now and then. Which will allow me to overcome these ridiculous chip shortage issues and acquire the XB7 after their LCI.

One must consider the plethora of electronic gremlins and fairly significant reliability issues that still exist in Land Rover products. The new Defender is no different.
Not sure where your located, but here in Chicago the Q8 is pretty common. If you're willing to spend the extra money, the Porsche will give you the sportiest driving experience along with a build quality is second to none in its class. My current 750i and various X7 and 8-Series loaners have left much to be desired in the fit and finish department. The creaks and rattles simply are not befitting of a $100K+ vehicle.

If I had to make this choice I’d either stay with the X7 or go with SQ7/RS6. All those fastback (coupe) SUVs do nothing for me and dare I say they’re ugly. Last edited by BMWBear; 06-20-2021 at 05:45 AM.. |

Update: I test drove a Defender 110. So cool looking, and I like how different it is from the BMW, but... That's a lot of $ for something that feels like a little bit nicer Jeep Wrangler. Unless the SVR comes out and blows me away I think I'll take it off the list.
Alpina might be the answer. Only downside for me is color schemes. Am I the only one that thinks it looks less sporty? |

No, you're not alone, the XB7 is not a sporty-looking car IMO compared to the MSport styling, but opinions are opinions. Like the M50i, the XB7 is fun as hell to drive.

Also, I live in the actual city of Chicago, not some bland suburb like many who claim to be from "Chicago" so there's millions of people here, which I'm sure contributes to how many I've seen.

Although Im unfortunate enough to live in Crook County I don't live in the polished toilet that goes by the name Chicago. Still a little far fetched to say you see tons of them around when total sales are pretty meek in comparison to the other two. If you're into the exclusiveness thing Rs6 or E63s Wagon is the way to go. I guess Alpina is also exclusive but it's basically a M50i with a pretty dress ...so ehh. As they say ..whatever floats your boat. |
