If I want something as sporty as the M50i, feels like I have a few options (and btw the third row isn't a make or break).
Audi RSQ8 - I know people hate on the X7 grill, but I'm not sure I love this RSQ8 face. X5M - Love the wheels and black trim on the Competition, but all auto journalists hate it for the ride quality. Cayenne GTS - Can't think of a downside here? Just not as big as X7. Alpina XB7 - Sounds amazing - just have to be ok getting mostly the same vehicle. I need to drive one to see if it's worth the extra to me. Probably eliminating: Defender V8 - very cool but not luxurious or fast enough (holding out possibility of an SVR?) Audi SQ7 - I've seen a few in person, and while very nice, they just don't look special enough Merc GLS 63 AMG - pretty pricey and I'm pretty sure two moms in my neighborhood already have one Last edited by Jefflikescars; 06-22-2021 at 02:36 PM.. |

Last week I test drove a GLS 63 and though it drove nice and was very quick, the interior lacks in quality compared to the X7. The X7 seems very much better put together and the nice details it has. How many 3 row SUVs have a sunroof in the third row? Just my opinion. Good luck in your search!

This whole time I thought I would do the same, then I asked BMWFS. You can only extend your lease for 3 months if you leave BMW, and 6 months if you have an order in for a build.
I have a MY19 with plenty of stuff currently not available and wanted to extend for a year or two, but now I'll likely just buy unless things calm down by next summer. |

As far as SUVs go, it's the best I've been in hands down. Looked into the newer generation Cayenne's and the way the nickel and dime you for features is a bit disappointing. You can easily add $30K worth of additional add-ons and barely scratch the surface. Plus, from what I've seen the X5MC is faster than all the others. We checked out Merc, but they were such gaping @$$holes that it turned us off from the whole brand. In addition to ridiculous money factors and lackluster interiors on the whole, Merc just didn't make the cut. Comparing to my limited time in my friend's X7, I found the space to be the same save the third row, which I had in my last X5 and literally never used once. Admittedly though, no kids, no wife (she was my GF then ) so the 3rd row was a luxury I didn't need. The interior on the X5MC is bar none one of the best BMW offers save maybe an Alpina/7-Series. I think the option of having merino (particularly Sakhir Orange), the M-seats, M 818 or 808 rims and the massaging are deal breakers. Again, all options you could get on the P-car but at what cost. The aesthetic of the Cayenne also isn't as appealing to me either. I do like the GLS, but if I were to go with a Merc I'd splurge and shoot for the G-wagon. Not for everyone though.

So I had an X7 this week as a loaner. My normal daily is a 2021 X6MC and I can tell you one thing for sure- it is not even remotely similar in terms of driving and styling.
If you like the BMW ecosystem with iDrive and excellent interior quality compared to some other germans (cough Mercedes cough) but want something that really stands out and is a fucking rocket ship with only the Lambo Urus being faster by 0.1 seconds in the 1/4 mile I urge you to take a look. Yes it beats the Cayenne Turbo S. Its sexier and faster than the RSQ8 and has a much nicer interior without that disgusting design language Audi has gone with touchscreen everything and piano black everywhere. The biggest downside is its a dude magnet lol. |
