This company INSISTS that the backup lights are in the same spot PreLCI vs LCI. Obviously it's a pass for me since they don't have a clue.

As per part# of tailgate itself is identical between 2019 and 2023, for lci, only tail lights itself been redesigned, even front end only difference is front bumper, trim pieces and lights, hood and fenders are same across 2019-2023…

2 things I would like to know on this retrofit.

1. Wiring harness differences
2. Possibility of coding or not.

Retrofit isn’t happening. I could see BMW moving the reverse light on purpose just for that sake. Hence different wiring harnesses. The guys selling this aren’t the brightest.

Retrofit is possible, but very. Technical, new taillights has internal module which needs can wire connection to main computer, I’ve seen people done on 7 series, very complex work, I don’t think it worth the effort.

Hello everyone! My car (2023 X740i) has damaged tailgate, and I am looking to buy used one. I wanted to ask if I can buy tailgate from 2020 X7, and use it to put my taillights and bumper from 2023 model. Thank you!

The tailgates are the exact same so a 2020 should work. Just have to swap over your lights and hardware

I was referring to the ‘20 tailgate shell….that should work. Would need lights and harness from ‘23 to make it all work.

If pre-Lci was can based tail lights, than no wiring changes. If pre Lci was not can protocol based lights (each lamp has micro computer inside), than Lci lamps won’t work unless you add can wire and rewire power and ground to KL30 power line.

Further more, g11 pre Lci did not support Lci lamps without special can adapter that costs 500$. But pre Lci g11 was based on different version of bdc from g11 Lci, and that is why it could not support Lci lamps natively. On g05/g07 cars being mgu cars by default electrical changes to Lci should be less critical.

I will try to find out actual wiring diagrams for pre Lci and Lci later today as well as bdc version - as some one said here they seem to be based on same bdc

I can confirm that wiring is different in the connectors. I'm currently work with a company that makes a lot of custom retrofits/emulators. Also I got those LCI lights already in my position for cheap ($600 for a kit). So if it will not work I'll lose nothing - just gonna sale them.
Keep you posted.

Keep me posted how u go Nikkksrys as I'm about to purchase a 2020 G07 and that's the first retrofit I would like to make. It also doesn't have the Msport bar and I will do that also for the front but it won't be the LCI version as I'm not very much sold on that look.

My 2024 tail lights do not dance upon walk up. Anyone know why or how to enable this?

I was behind an LCI the other day and watched the turn signal animation. Somewhat underwhelmed as it seemed rather dim to me. The "old" pre-LCI turns signals would really grab your attention, which is what they are supposed to do, right?
Color me unimpressed. If BMW wants to follow in the footsteps of Audi, Ford and others, at least do it right.

i actually liked the plain on and off of the pre 11/2022 software update.
not a fan of the fade in fade out effect.

I agree. the fade in/out to me looks aftermarket. The plains LED light bar looks better and classier if that makes sense.

So…. Unfortunately the outcome isn’t a good one. Because the retrofit will require a lot of wiring work, a company decided do not continue rnd due to possible low sales that will not give them a return/profit.
I’m so saaaaaaddddd.

Agreed. HATE the way BMWNA did their silly fade in/out signals. Why can't they just look like the Euro spec. Looks so much better there!!

So AliExpress came out with a plug and play kit for the 5 series when the LCI tails came out. I wonder if they will for the X7 too soon. I ended up getting it for my 5 and they've been great. Even got Euro spec, so it has amber LED turn signals...not the brake lights doubling as signals like the NA LCIs.

Interesting. Do you have a link to what you purchased from Ali?

I believe this is it. There are several sellers selling these now and quick search shows a few variations of the original (such as sequential turns and some transparent variation as well that wasn't there before). When I got mine 2 yrs ago, there was only 1 or 2 sellers and it was closer to $700. Theyre also on eBay and amazon now too. Quite a few of us on the G30 forums have purchased these are have been happy with them:

Can we get someone else to look at it? Happy to pay too as I've bought the updated lights.
