Ugly cars, taking away popular options, quality control issues, releasing vehicles that haven't passed Alpha testing let alone Beta testing. What a freaking mess!
It's true but every brand has one or more of the issues you listed.

I've been driving BMW's since 1996, have purchased several dozen vehicles (of various mfgs) since that time. Have also been involved in the purchase and maintenance of many dozens of vehicles for family and friends. All brands. Not one is issue free. (not necessarily mechanical issue, could be purchase issue, servicing issues etc).
There is no perfect brand. No matter where you jump ship to (have done it many times) you're going to run into some issues.

Agreed. I've been buying cars for over 40 years and they just keep getting worse every year.

My dealer has approached me a couple of times wanting me to trade my 2020 X7 for a new one. I simply told him I wasn't interested in downgrading to a lessor vehicle for even more money than I paid for my X7. He agreed with me.

I agree. I wish we can still get the same quality of seats and leather we used to get in the 90s on the 7-series and S-class vehicles!

Yes it has changed recently, like really just a few days ago!!!!!! I used to be able to find what the software version/release number is from the App as well as a long article/summary of things changed in the last update. Not anymore now! thanks BMW!!!!!!! Things keep getting worst on all end, software/hardware/cars!
The latest version in the car is now displaying in the app. Maybe there was some maintenance on their app/site so was not available temporarily

iPhone or Android? I'm not seeing it in my app any longer on Android. My Android App version is 2.9.2. I have a 2020 X7 40i and my iDrive version is 03/2022.80.

Same here. I still don’t see the software version # as it used to be in the past. I have the most recent update for the app (iPhone). My vehicle software is 7.2021 but can’t see that anymore in the app.

UPDATE: JUST GOT AN OTA UPDATE FOR 2022.7.58

I too am sitting on 07/2021.

I've received a couple OTA's on my 2021 X7, but haven't received any OTA since 07/2021 which came through a year ago.

Big question, people have had software updated at dealer, but has ANYONE received an OTA update since 07/2021?

Good question but I think the answer is no. I was on 07/2021 before the dealer updated me to 03/2022-80. I hadn't received an OTA update since 07/2021.

My guess is BMW abandoned OTA updates for all vehicles prior to MY2023. They will probably only update 2022 and below model year vehicles if there is a specific issue that's affecting specific vehicles or if a customer wants to pay for an update.

Neither, my app sent me a notification and I opened it. It showed that there is an update I clicked accept/download and then it automatically downloaded thr data to my phone. As soon as I got into my vehicle with my phone connected the I idrive system showed a message (Preparing upgrade to 07/2022.58)

Yep. Got mine the day before yesterday but haven't updated the car yet. I will probably do that this weekend.

I did notice that the change logs only show three things (other than bug fixes) that have changed for iDrive 7. All the rest of the changes are for iDrive 8 only. It tells you at the bottom of each of the changes for the update if it's for iDrive 8 only. BMW calls iDrive 8 "OS8" and not "iDrive 8".

The three updates that affect iDrive 7 vehicles are:

"Lane Departure Warning: Adjustment of the warning signal."

"Lane Departure Warning: Optimized steering intervention for for increased driving comfort."

"Improved quality: Display of the current vehicle data in the My BMW App."

Everything else applies only to iDrive 8/OS8.

The million dollar question is: What did they break that was working before this update? I will be sure to post what I find over the coming weeks and months. I would be willing to wager that they for sure broke at least one thing as part of this update. I would love to be proven wrong when it comes to updates with BMW. It just seems to be in their nature to break something with their updates.

Just curious, what are the things that got broken in the past with previous updates? The last update I got actually was a very good one (7.2021) with no issued and I really noticed a lot of improvements in drive assist as well as the auto-lane change feature. No issues at all, but it’s not like I have had my X7 for years and years, so I wonder if you can share examples of things that former updates had broken.
Am excited about this 07.2023 update. I’ll test drive the X7 tomorrow to see the impact on lane departure and/or drive assist.

There are several and there are discussions here on the forum somewhere. Two that come to mind are the RPM indicator in the Heads Up Display which went missing when you changed to Sport Driving Mode. It worked on delivery then the next update broke it. It took like 3 updates to get that back again.

One other one, which in BMW's mind is an enhancement as per their description in the update, was that they decided everyone wanted the driver's seat settings to be implemented for when the wife or significant other had their key fob with them and touches any one of the other three door handles to unlock the car or uses her key fob to unlock the car. Even if that person isn't driving. That's still broken as of 03/2022.xx.

That may seem trivial to many but when your wife has her key and gets in the passenger seat the driver's profile is set to her profile. You can't just use the your key fob by pressing the unlock button to reset it to your profile. You have to either lock the car again and unlock it with your key fob or get in and tap the screen to switch the profile back to your profile. Try getting into the drivers seat when it's set for a 4'11" person. Aint happening. You have to reach in and fiddle with the screen to change the profile or lock and then unlock it again and wait for the settings to change.

On top of all that this is unnecessary wear and tear on the seat, steering, wheel, and mirrors. The wife isn't willing to leave her keys at home even if she isn't driving. Plus, when it's cold she doesn't want to wait for me to put the groceries in the trunk and sometimes she's putting some groceries in the back seat but she got there first.

There are a few other things they broke in previous updates I just can't remember them at the moment. Other members might remember what some of the other things are.

I have downloaded the 07/2022.58 but my car won’t prompt me to install it. Anyone know how to get it to do that? Car was parked all night and nothing.

You will have to make sure both Bluetooth and Wireless are enabled in the car and on your phone. Additionally, you will need to drive around while it prepares and validates the update. You should see a percentage number while it's doing this. It won't install the update on the car unless the car's battery is fully charged.

Same here. The software is downloaded, but vehicle keeps showing a message that I will be notified when the upgraded can be installed.

I believe the battery is low due to cold temperatures and all short trips I am making. Even Auto-Stop System is not working nowadays. Sounds like I need a long trip or charge maintainer. Can anyone recommend a good charger?

I haven't gotten an OTA since June of 2021 when I got 03/2021 on my 2020 ID7 X7. While the My BMW app on my phone still shows 11/2020 as the most recent version and the one installed on my car.

I just received my OTA on my iphone yesterday. When I looked at what the update consists of, most of the items stated "only available for vehicles with OS8" so I am wondering if those of us with 2019 to 2022 X7s should even bother with this update since we all have OS7 (I-drive 7). I will wait to install mine until I hear from other people who have installed it on I-drive 7 X7s

In fact most of the important updates (to me) are those that are available on the ID7 too. All the items that are related to drive-assist or lane-change or so are compatible with ID7, and those were the most important ones to me which is why I proceeded with the software. Also, keep in mind that by upgrading to 7/2022 you are also getting all the software updates that you might have missed in March 22 or Nov 21 if u did not get those yet. I noticed most people were stuck on the 7/2021 before this 22 update came.
