How do you calculate the pipe cut for MPE?
All,
Just got the MPE & diffuser for the 235 and cannot find any info where to cut the stock exhaust. Is there a location calculation? I really have not located a mark on it that is a reference that I can tell. I would like to be able to reinstall the stock exhaust later or sell it so I do not want to hack it up. Thanks for your help guys |

I did not have a dimple on the oem piping and I've seen others say the same.
I just held up the MPE and eyeballed it and marked it. Remember if anything you want to cut such that the stock pipe will be too long in case you mess up.

True but I also want the stock exhaust to be reinstalled when I trade the car in at a later date There must be some way to estimate the location like a instruction or something. I cannot see every dealer just holdint the exhaust up and making an estimate. A lot of room for variance.....

I have wondered this as well. The only thing i can think of is using a fabric tape measure so you can measure the pipe coming out of the MPE muffler. Then match that length on the stock muffler on the car and that should give you your cut spot.

Check these two threads out. I installed Dinan on my car - the measurement for the Dinan exhaust is 7 1/4 - 7 1/2 inches from the base of the inlet pipe.

My estimates were slightly off and ended up with a larger gap than I wanted but it all came together. Pic's posted here:

^ Exactly how my exhaust tips look (same distance) with the M Performance muffler and factory tips installed. I have the factory valance with factory tips reinstalled on the new muffler. The sound does get noticed and I love the overrun in low gears when coming off the throttle.

The larger gap was between where the MPE joins the main exhaust pipe & they join together with the clamp. My eyeball calculations were off. The gap around the tips I knew I would have since the factory tips are a smaller OD then the flashy M chromies
