I am going to check out the X7 on Friday, and I hoping the 3rd row is more functional. If not, I might just throw in the towel and buy a Navigator.

EDIT -- There was a 2019 Ford Explorer next to the Aviator and the 3rd row seats were much roomier in the Explorer as they were not as low to the ground.
X7 third row is great. I am 6' and fit just fine back there. Third row in the X7 is better than my 2015 Escalade.

Not sure about the Escalade, but I did sit in the third row of a 2018 Navigator. The Navigator was very comfy. I would say the third row on the Navigator is more comfortable than the X7. On the X7, the third row floor is slightly higher than the Navigator.

Overall though, driving the navigator was like driving a boat, rated at 400 HPs, really didn't feel that pull like I do on our 40i. I can't imagine what the 50i can do.

Cant comment on the Aviator.

To make proper use the 3rd row in the X7 the 2nd row bench needs to be moved forward to about the halfway point but that still leaves plenty of leg room for passengers sitting in the 2nd row. The new GLS now has a movable 2nd row (like the X7) to allow more leg room for 3rd row passengers. In the video I watched the room behind the 3rd row in the GLS looks more spacious than in the X7 but you can easily fit a row of grocery bags behind the 3rd row of the X7. I just would never buy a Cadillac, my family were Ford/Lincoln/Mercury people and Caddie's were the enemy. Can't get that out of my head all these years later.

I looked long and hard at the Aviator. I liked it. But I decided to let my 11 year old son choose. He said the Aviator looked cheap and boring compared to X7

With me opting for the M50i, the budget did not allow an Aviator for my mother (sorry..).

This month, I placed an order for her for a 2020 Explorer ST. Certainly not on BMW-level quality-wise, but boy is this thing fun to drive. Puts my Audi to a shame...

I’ve seen both.

Aviator is nice and has some nice features but, some areas just don’t fit well together.

X7 was a better fit and finish IMO.

At the auto show this past weekend, wife asked about some of the domestic 3rd row SUVs. I said they either drive like a truck (expedition) or are more expesnive to lease than the X7. It was estimated a comparably optioned Aviator would be at least $1500 a month on a lease.

Wish the GV80 was going to be out sooner. Lease on that might be mid $800s.

XC90 PHEV with tons of rebates and discounts is about $1300 on a lease.

Don't want the giant Lexus or Infiniti. Merc leases are outrageous. Defender 130 wont be out in 2020.

Seriously considering replacing our X5 with a Palisades Limited this summer on a 2 year lease until the X7 PHEV comes out.

Sorry to go this back on this thread, but the brand reliability and stability are metrics to consider. Subjective, I know, but must be considered nonetheless.

Speaking to the comment about the brand, I agree. It's struggling. I'm finding very little support at local dealerships for Lincoln's lineup. They are all paired with Ford DS rather than standalone, and. It the Linoln line is an afterthought. Some person at a desk in the corner who is there 50% of the time.

Reliability is another major concern of mine. I purchased a factory new F150 Platinum in 2018 and it has had more trips for warranty repairs on it than I ever did with my E90. Massage seats (x3), recalls (x5), engine (x3), transmission (x2), interior (x3). Honestly, very annoying.

Now I mention my Ford because it's the same as Lincoln to me. Close friend purchased a 2018 Navigator and it's been in for 3 warranty issues and several more recalls. QA/QC is a consistent issue IMHO. Couple that with the Aviator being a new SUV with tons of electronics/modules, the trips to the warranty/repair desk are going to be inevitable.

Now, I can understand if it was a $60K (CAD) SUV, but it's not. The Aviator, built the way I like it, is $14K less than the X7. I give that a bit more weight under the current economy, but wait till close to the end of the year and re-assess your financial situation. If you're like me and finance to own for 4+ years, then know that you're stuck with this thing for that long. Buy right the first time I say.

Just my thoughts. Now let me get back to arguing with my wife about going with the X7 over the Ford, sorry, Lincoln Aviator.

Ha! That's awesome. My kids said the same thing, but they're a few years younger. Also, 3rd row on the Aviator is not anywhere near as nice as the X7.

For all this is worth...

I feel so lucky in my choice of cars this season. I looked real hard at the Aviator and the GLS along with the X7. I even thought about getting another Q7 because I had pretty good luck with the 2018 I was trading in.

Here's the strange part. No matter which one I would have chosen, I would have been happy and felt lucky that I bought it.

I had a friend buy the GLS and then go on to tell me how big of a mistake I made with the X7. His opinion was that the GLS was so much better. But to be honest... All four were great choices.

For me, I wish I could have Frankenstein-ed pieces of all four of them and made one perfect for me. But just like most men that wish they could Frankenstein together a women... I just happy I am getting laid.
