Nobody may paid attention, however BMW actually announced the M50i in Shanghai International Auto Show, and also revealed the price in China (RMB ¥1,628,000). The interesting part is they haven't disclose any engine data yet. Looking forward to the U.S. release.

Good guess! but I'm seeing the gap being much smaller since 1) The M50i released in China is pretty much loaded, you only have to pay extra for is larger rim and a comfort package and gesture control(that's weird), even the merino leather is standard 2) the China government charge additional tax for cars with engine size > 3.0L, and that's included in the listing price

Yes, imported vehicles are taxed heavily in China. The tariff is up to 100% - so about $120k per X7 sale goes to taxes.
