Afe throttle body spacer
Anyone know if the Afe throttle body spacer actually gives you any extra HP? Is it worth the 150 bucks? Only other mods I have Is the afe intake, JB3 and BOV. Thanks.

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on that sort of thing in other cars.
one of the main arguments from a lot of the companies is that you get better fuel mixing, but on the 135, we are direct injection, so this wouldn't be the case for us. As far as the cyclone effect of these things, i just hear they make a lot of noise, but for 150 dollars and a claim of about 5hp, it might be worth it just to try out. some exhaust systems claim 5hp for about 1000$ so bang for buck, at least you get an expensive noise maker. At the most, you'll gain some extra horses for not too much money out of pocket..... The horsepower difference made by these things is so minimal that it can't really be read properly on a dyno. a dyno can fluctuate 5hp between 2 runs on it's own without any modifications to a vehicle, so it's completely down to what your butt dyno says. |

Will do absolutely nothing.
Our intake air is turbulent enough with the chargers, and air/fuel isn't going to be changed. It only adds an annoying whistle.

TB Spacers: I can't help but feel these are gimmicky. Never tried them though.
AFE Intake: I did a crap load of reading on this topic, reviewed dyno results, etc. The general consensus among tuners and drag racers is that it's hard to beat the stock intake. I know. It sounds crazy. But many cars have tried intakes (cold air, open air dual-cones, etc) and then gone back to the stock box. JB3: ...will change your life. Seriously. Even on conservative maps you will instantly feel the change. BOV: See comments for AFE Intake. It's hard to prove that these make any measurable performance difference. Some of them do sound great though. Some sound whiney and lame.

Never head anyone claim a BOV gains hp and I have one. If anything it "might" the lifecycle of your throttle body or turbo if it can release more boost faster than our plastic diverter valves. Terry Burger purchased one of these. He was going to use it for nitrous or meth. He recently sold it on N54 to the first person who made a $20 donation to any charity. So don't think it will be adding much power.

It does nothing. It is supposed to better mix the fuel but as our cars are DI all that passes it is air.

Had one on my S10. Didn't do shat but make the engine sound different. Cold air intakes are more useful, and they don't really do shat either.

BOV does not add horsepower, it's never claimed to have done such things, just sends air to a different place then a diverter valve.
I also believe if a throttle body spacer actually did anything, we would all have them on our cars by now. |

The TBS will help more than it'll hurt your car. Mindgame is right though, depending on the power you're running you'll want to get a diverterpipe. There have been a lot of cases of that thing coming undone from driving hard.

So this thread has died but im back to thinking if the TBS really does work. Word is that its supposed to better mix fuel/air and gain some HPs. But with our DI its pretty much worthless. but... what if you run meth? Which is tapped into your charge pipe BEFORE the TBS. Now the question is could the TBS better mix the air/meth and allow us to get better use out of our meth?

Bought one. Put it on. It did nothing for the butt dyno. Don't really care to try on a real one. Took it off, waste of money.
