Its possible to vo code the car but not fdl code. VO coding might affect other functions not only the rear lights.

sounds like they VO coded the whole car to euro spec.
that is still possible as they are changing the master vehicle spec and then coding all the downstream modules according to that.

Couple of questions:

1. VO?
2. Can the master vehicle spec and modules be changed remotely?

Thanks for any clarification.

VO coding is coding using the FA(vehicle order). It sets the parameters of the coding file according to the FA.
LCI models have secure coding. Currently the only solution to this is generating coding file using the FA. This allows you to only VO code. Currently its not possible to edit the coding files. The coding files can be generated even from a modified FA, this allows you to change region, add specific options like languages.
This can be done remotely. Only thing needed is the FA and SVT to generate the coding files. The rest is done using esys either locally or remotely.

Vehicle Order- basically when they build your car, a list of options and configs are entered in, in 4 character codes, depending on how the car should be configured. for example, US spec cars have S5AP as part of their FA (VO) code (i'll get back to this...)
when the car is flashed, either at the factory, the dealer, or an OTA update, the car sets the configuration of the modules by this list. so for example, when your car is updated, the FA is read, and for example, S5AP is there. that tells the car to disable no glare highbeams. it sets the config for all the modules that are involved with that option.

before secure coding, basically the prelci, you could code individual modules roughly, read the config, edit the config, then write the config back to the module. so you could do things like disable disclaimers, disable seatbelt chimes, enable non glare highbeams, tons of stuff.

now bmw has blocked module by module modification and coding by 1) removing access to the files needed to code and 2) having a digital signing requirement and no longer having the keys present (iirc, the keys used to be included in the data that was used for coding)

so you could code changes by modifying the FA and then updating the car. the modified VO would make the changes for you. but VO coding is very blunt, it makes sweeping changes across the car. i havent done coding since the pre lci G01, so i might be wrong about some of the details in terms of whats possible and how its done. but as far as i know fdl coding is dead (for now)

has someone gotten ahold of the Psdz data files? or is it possible to say, remove S5AP and VO code the car without it?

The psdzdata files are available, its only the caf files that are missing. Without caf file you can't vo code or edit fdl. Even if you get access to the caf file it won't help.
Its possible to generate caf files for a vehicle using modified FA.
If you need secure coding I can generate the caf files. You only need to provide FA and SVT_IST.
