aFe Mid Pipes or PE ?
So do I install the aFe 2.5" mid pipes that also do the secondary cat delete? I heard they add 7hp and 2mpg.
or save up for PE add 3hp and leave the stock mid pipes? For commuter car so really don't need the beautiful PE sound. Just want better mileage and slight bump in performance. If I did the mid pipes first, I would probably add the PE next year and vice versa. |

PE =less weight, sound, ?hp
Mid Pipe= more sound below 4500rpm, 4-7hp dyno tested. most back pressure are created with main and secondary cat, reduce back pressure at muffler does not help much unless get rid of cat first. so i will try mid pipe, its much cheaper to start also. MPG wise it is best keep everything stock, with mod you will just wanna step on it more

Thanks everyone.
I think that I will get a set of aFe Mid Pipes and put them on my son's 328 as he already has the PE installed. His exhaust is already cut so it should just bolt in. Then probably put a set on my 328 after I get a good baseline for it. |

I have both AFE midpipes and BMW PE. I installed both at the same time so I don't have a direct comparison, but I believe the larger diameter of the midpipes gives the exhaust a slightly deeper tone compared to the PE alone, based on sound clips.
The midpipes were a bit long and pushed my PE too far back. I had to trim the PE Y pipe (where it connects to the midpipes) by an inch to get the tips where I wanted them. |

3 and 7 HP are both within the dyno margin of error.
Highly doubt you will notice any power increase with either exhaust
