A long time ago(1987) I helped a buddy out by towing his car. My '68 SS396 convertible Chevelle pulling his mercury Capri with a rope on the highway. Probably 25 miles. Everything was going fine until we hit off ramp. I touched my brakes which was our agreed signal for him to brake for both of us. NOPE! Wham! Put a big dent in my chrome bumper. I told him before we started that if he damaged my car I was going to have to kill him. We got to the house and he iimmediately jumped out of his car and ran away. He didn't come back for 2 days.
DO NOT DO THIS!!! Very dangerous and very likely to damage both cars. |

I must be missing something here? How is it $400, when the quote says $64 +.69/mile and you are only going on a 3hr haul? thats almost 500 miles.
Go the route of either renting a truck from a car rental place, or home depot, then renting a tow dolly. Dont be a dumbfuck and try and use a tow strap on the highway. And before you get all butthurt, my sister would never get with someone who drives an old 325 and cant afford a uhaul. |

Do it....it can tow that just fine.
It's all the other variables that are sketchy/risky. If you pull this off no problems= win for you....if not, sounds like you've been warned. |

If OP can't afford something to tow the car, then you can't really afford the car. If something goes wrong you could end up with 2 stuck cars needing a tow in the middle of nowhere and that will cost you a lot more than just renting a Uhaul.

Not currently running. I have an idea of what it could be... I wouldn't feel alright leaving it there if I couldn't get it going though.

For future reference, make friends with someone that has a truck.

Home Depot truck rental and car trailer from UHaul might be the best option, I think that runs at around $300 possibly gas included.
Either way it's going to cost you a few hundred to get this done.

Made contact with a guy who lives in the same city I might be able to store the car at his place until I can get it running, in the rare event I have to leave and come back for it.

Pony up the cash for the proper equipment.
A few hundred dollars isn't going to (or shouldn't) break you. You have an accident or damage your car doing this and it's going to be alot more than $300. Towing is hard on the transmission and these cars weren't built to pull. I wouldn't do it. |
