Tire Review: Michelin Pilot Sport All Season (22" Squared setup)

I've got about 15K on my squared setup (285/40 22) with the Michelin Pilot Sport All Seasons. Thought I would give a review.

Tire Wear: Tread life has been pretty good in my opinion. The tires are down to 7/32 (from 10/32) on average. Wear is pretty even across the tires:

Tire | Outside | Middle Out | Middle Inner | Inner | Average
-----+---------+------------+--------------+-------+--------
LF | 7/32 | 8/32 | 7/32 | 6/32 | 7/32
RF | 7/32 | 8/32 | 8/32 | 7/32 | 7/32
RR | 6/32 | 7/32 | 7/32 | 7/32 | 7/32
LR | 6/32 | 6/32 | 6/32 | 5/32 | 6/32

Some of the variences can be attributed to the alignment being off after I encountered some wicked pot holes in CO. Drove a couple days there and then back to Missouri with the alignment off by a bit.

Given those numbers, I will probably be able to get 30K out of the tires which is pretty good. I'll see what they look like this winter and decide if I should replace them.

Comfort: Meh - seems fine. You feel a few bumps, but I am also running pretty high PSI (42 front, 49 rear). I know others thought that might be high, but since the waer is even I think its about right.

Other Observations: I don't like the strech on the back as much, expecially since we hit a curb and put some road rash on one of the rear tires. There weren't many all season options for 22" wheels when I got the tires (Oct of 22). I will be switching to the Conti dws06+ next since I can get them in the factory sizes.

Great review- thanks for sharing!!!!

I have these tires on my Audi Q7 and love them. I've had them almost a year but will need to replace them soon. I'll have gotten almost 40K out of them and will get another set of them.

Is the stretch on the rear wheel obvious? Does it look goofy?

Its not too bad. I think the factory size could help protect the wheel. Check out my original post to see pics:

So staggered wheels and square tires? Or what size/style wheel are you running on all 4 corners?

I'm considering 22's but want a square setup of OEM wheels I can rotate (if that's even possible...).

if you want to rotate, you would need 4 front rims, 22X9.5, then you could run 275/40-22, 285/40-22

Thanks for clarifying!

So what's the advantage of square when not rotating?

Even 20-25k is impressive in my opinion.

I m probably due for new tires this summer. (Currently on Conti SSR at 5/32 with 8k miles). I was 100% going with DWS staggered but have been considering getting 2 front rims (22x9.5) and make it a square 275x40x22 setup. Does anyone see a problem with this approach?

not sure its worth it now that a proper sized set exists.
the front rims run about 1K each if you go new.
not sure how much being able to rotate will extend tire life, and recoup the cost of the replacement rims.

Even a reconditioned or lightly used wheel on eBay is going to run $6-800. I've been looking since my wife....well any of you married guys know what wives do to beautiful pristine wheels on their large SUVs.

mine does not drive, but likes using her ring hand to close the doors, palm flat across the panel...
and knocks snow and mud off her shoes by kicking the side skirts.....
