22" OEM tyres on HRE 10.5/11.5 x22 setup?

Hi,

I thought about changing the 22" OEM wheel set for something more exciting and I saw here on forums 22" HRE FF10 set which is for X7s.

The thing is OEM wheels are 9.5 and 10.5x22 and HRE makes only 10.5 and 11.5 setup while recommending the same tyre width as it's on OEM wheels.

I'm a bit worrier about things like drive comfort and safety of the wheels. I havent seen close images of this setup.

I could get Pirellis in 285/40 and 325/35 eventually, should I pull the trigger?

stock tires are fine. both are within the width range of the stock tires.
bmw actually puts the max width tire for the rim size (the rims are on the small side of the spectrum for the tires that bmw uses.)

I’m running the same width front/rears as a winter set on the Alpina with the Vossen HF5’s.

Definitely a more aggressive stance depending on your offset, but it will definitely work with the tires you mention.

Those are 10.5 and 11.5 rims with 275/315 tires? That doesn't really look too mutch different tbh.

Do you have side photo? Those looks also nice.

thx for the input, i see there's still some reserve. I just dont want the ride quality or wheel safety to be too mutch compromised.
But I could buy wider tires eventually.

I have these exact wheels on mine, stock staggered tires. Rides wonderfully, not noticeably different from the stock 21s that came with the car.

I have the exact same setup with the HRE FF10's and the stock tires. I think 285's in the front would be ideal for better coverage, but 275 works fine, a little more exposure of the lip of the rim than I'd like but it works. The 315's on the rears are a perfect fit.

275/40/22 match up with 315/35/22
285/40/22 would be slightly smaller in diameter.
No reason to do that.
If you wanted to go with 285/40/22, then go with 325/35/22 in the rear. That is the same diameter.
Otherwise you start to risk transfer case issues... Although the above might all be within tolerance. But again, why risk it.

FWIW I was looking to go 325 in the rear but couldn’t find any good all-seasons. If I could, would have gone meatier (for the look).

The Pirelli Scorpions are great. That’s what I run for my winter setup. The tread wear is exceptional and they have them in 325 section.

How do you feel about some spacers for these?

I'm about to use 275/315 and eventually go with 285/325 if oem size is a problem. Since we use summer/winter in Europe Pirelli should do... otherwise I would go with P4S.

You mean 285/40 would be slightly "bigger" in diameter, than the 275/40?

Keep in mind that the stock front wheels are 9.5" wide, compared to the FF10 fronts that are 10.5" wide, so the 275/40's in the front are stretched, hence the 285/40's being a better fit on the FF10 fronts, and probably keeping the diameter back closer to original spec. I'm no wheel/tire expert, but the 10.5" wide wheels stretch out the OEM 275/40 tires up front. I'll try to post pics later.

Yeah, I had that backwards. The 285/40/22 would be 31" and the 275/40/22 would be 30.7". And 315/35/22 are also 30.7" with the 325/35/22 being 31".

Thanks! Indeed, they’re tarmac. In retrospect I would have gone for the gloss black (love the look in the rain). Haven’t considered spacers - for now, I’m done with the car mods

Thx, I like the matte finish more but I'm thinking About some sort of bronze hue, but not sure ifit wouldn't be overkill 😄 I have Frozen Pure Grey on my X7.
