sorry sam, no disrespect to your english, but i cant tell if you meant that the throttle body was unplugged electrically, or that the black hose (charge pipe) came off under pressure.

If it was the hose, then yes, too much pressure and it popped off..

regards,

regards,
2009 and later N54 had a down grade from BMW, instead of a rubber coupler between the intercooler discharge pipe and charge pipe, BMW replaced it with a plastic charge pipe from the throttle body all the way to the intercooler discharge pipe. BMW engineers should have known better that plastic pipe over another isn't the best way to hold 10 psi of pressure. Sure, the old style has more restriction and turbulence, but it never would pop off. The extra friction rubber/silicone over the pipes just adds an extra layer of security against the hose popping off. The upgrade here would be an ER charge pipe with a 4-ply silicone hose. The CNC machine throttle body fitting is also stronger than the stock plastic version, we have seen this end pop off as well from time to time.

Can't blame BMW as the extra rubber/silibone coupler and clamp cost money, especially when you multiply that by 100K+. That is the same reason BMW welds the ring gear to the diff. Much easier for the robot to run one bead of weld, then to drill and tap 12 holes and purchase 12 high grade bolts for assembly.

Any pics please of the hose in question and where it is when one looks into the engine bay? Is it readily visible or hidden away under a lot of other gubbins??

Just so I/we know if it happens to any cars of those of us - like me - who aren't so good at knowing what's going on under the bonnet! (-:

yeah i had this same problem on mine. i got a riss racing charge pipe and DDV's and it seemed to solve the problem. The dealer is the worst place to go for this problem it took them 8 hours to figure it out after telling me it was my catless down pipes they realized the charge pipe had disconected, i wasnt too happy my bill was way too much compared to what it would cost to plug that pipe back on. but what really blew my mind was how it flew off a couple hours later and i put it back on in my driveway in 15 mins. the stealership has to be your last resort in my opinion

It's a turbo car, get used to it. Intercooler pipes blow off all the time.

Just because it's a BMW doesn't change the fact it's still a turbo car and will suffer from turbo car issues.

All turbo cars suffer from common issues (boost leaks, charge pipes blowing off, etc etc)

No they don't. I've had loads of turbo cars and charge pipes blowing off has NEVER been an issue.

Do you use T-clamps? Most worm clamps that come on turbo cars are horrible. Either that or you don't boost much.

<-- boosting 28psi on my EVO, I have to use t-clamps and hairspray on my charge pipes to prevent them from blowing off.

I've owned a succession of turbo cars, and never had any issues with actual intercooler plumbing.

I've lost boost because of vaccum hoses coming loose, but that's about it. Ironically, the car that gave me the least trouble was my old R33 GT-R, and it had 500hp crank at 1.4 bar...

Had the charge pipe on my FD RX-7 come off a few times, even with T-clamps. Not a big deal.

I have owned Many Turbo cars since 1988 and Never had any charge pipe issues at all. This issue is in No way common. The OP should just take the car into the dealer. Problem solved.

Had it happen to me, engine malfunction light came on, reduced power. I took my screwdriver, popped the hood, tightened the bolt, and all was good.

So let me get this straight.... Several owners on this post have already had this same No Boost issue with their new 1M's right???

I count at least 3 people with this same issue, with how many miles on your new 1M's???

All of these cars are obviously still under Full Warranties as well right?

Please let us know how Wide Spread this Loss of Boost problem is on the 1M's
