Mine was software issue. BmW NA did an update few months ago and so far so good. Take it to dealership even if it goes away. Get it on the record.

Sad to hear about your car issues Setllar. I know we were both excited to get our cars around the same time (same location too). How many miles until you started seeing the issues?

I got it three times. One was around 200 miles then I think around 4k then at around 8k. Nothing so far. Fingers crossed. I still love my car.

I’m now at 1800 miles on my m60i with 0 issues..
it had a check engine light at/around 300 miles but that went away after a few starts; no codes. OP, good luck.. hopefully it’s a minor fix. |

Found this thread on a Google search and registered.
My X7 is also having Drivetrain Malfunctions. 2023 40i with less than 300 miles on it. After reading this, I'm wondering if this is just headed toward becoming a buy back in a couple weeks. |

Some update on my m60i. Car went to service center on 04/27/23. Got my car out of service center on 05/09/23. Issue fixed for now.
As per the service advisor, It was a software issue in TFE control unit. BMW will release a software update for this issue in near future it seems and car looks good as of now. |

Anyone also have rattling vibration issues while they received this message?
My X7 just threw out the drivetrain malfunction issue and now it vibrates too. Doesn't feel good. Have an appt. tomorrow to take it in. |

I am joining the drivetrain malfunction party. My 2023 X7 40i (2.5 weeks old and about 300 miles) gave me an error this afternoon and wouldn't start. After 20 minutes or so, the error went away and I was able to start my car.
I am taking it in for service tomorrow, but am having a lot of anxiety about driving it even if they "fix" the issue. This car is for driving around my 3 young kids (4yo, 2yo, 5mo old). Is there anything I can ask the service to check or do to give me more peace of mind? I am ready to ask them to check the software update AND fuel pump as those seem to be the two fixes that might work. |

+1 on the drivetrain.
I have a 23 X7 40i with c.9k miles on it. I started getting errors within two weeks of taking delivery (lane departure warning errors etc) which have recurred three times. I've had two drivetrain errors, including one which caused the car to stop and become unresponsive at a junction, and had to be towed over 100miles back to my local dealer (thanks to AAA - BMW roadside assist would not have done it). The car has been at the dealer for a month straight now. It has previously spent an additional week there for two separate iterations of the same errors. The dealer has so far replaced something in the steering column (for the lane departure type errors) and also the throttle body (for the drivetrain errors) but I think all of the errors are connected because the 'lane departure errors' tend to precede the drivetrain errors. My wife, having been stranded over 100miles away from home, does not want to see the car again and, because the car has been 'out of service for reason of repair' for more than 30 days, it should meet the lemon requirements in NY. When the car is eventually ready to be picked-up, I'm going to get a copy of all of the paperwork and then ask to chat about trade assist. I'm keen to get the situation sorted before the point that I would have to take a mileage deduction under NY lemon laws. - i.e. at that point I feel like I would have less leverage. |

My dealer ended-up replacing the throttle body in an effort to remedy the drivetrain issue. We've had the car back for one week now and there has been no repeat of the drivetrain issue but it was never a frequently recurring issue so it's difficult to have much confidence, not least because there were other problems with the car (the lane departure warnings and related systems) and they tended to occur at the same time, which suggests a more systemic electrical issue.
Given BMW have had the car in the shop for over 30days in aggregate, the car should qualify as a lemon in NY so I am going to pursue a 'trade assist'. I want to keep the car for 5yrs+ so want to make sure it's a good one. |

Adding to the list of drivetrain malfunction. I actually have a 2024 40i, but this was the most recent post on LCI drivetrain malfunctions. Was camping this weekend and when heading back to our camp site, driving around 20 mph, error popped up. Drove pretty easy back to the campsite about 20 miles away. Didn’t use the car the remainder of the day. The next morning the error had cleared, but still made a service appointment at local dealership. On the drive back home from camping, did want to “test” the car a bit and tried to open it up a couple times. I did notice the acceleration did seem delayed/reduced. Then not sure if it is related, but since delivery, I have noticed a creaking sound from presumably somewhere along the steering system.
Other X7 details:
I’ll keep the post updated. But one question. For this situation should I go to the dealership where I bought my X7, or would my local BMW service center suffice? Thanks in advance. |
