Stabilizing rear end - part #2 Toe Arms

I posted a while ago about installing Turner solid SF bushings, and that got me 60-70% of what I was hoping for. I Thought about guide rods, wishbones, diff bushings, control arms etc. spoke to Dinan, talked to all my guru buddy's, read this forum, and got an audience with the Pope.
Decided to do toe arms first...
Installed some Megan Toe Arms and they have delivered. Absolutely dead straight even after matting in sport mode dropping two gears. I still had a little "wander" under transitional loading even after the SFB's. No more. Not even a little. Passing on the highway is an act of serenity and confidence. And now my LSD feels like it behaves properly. Before it would "duck walk" as the torque was vectored and the toe changed.

Best 205$ I have ever spent on a BMW. (+89.95 for the alignment which pisses me off since I just got it done with the SFB's!)

Oh and since I have 30K miles the stock ones I removed looked new...but were 10 yrs old.

You're experience doesn't surprise me. Amazing how much deflection happens at the toe arms. I've had the Meagans for years and had my suspension in the air yesterday checking components. The bearings still look new.

Thanks RG, good to know. Was gonna do the manzo but wasn't entirely sure they had the "pillow" ends and the housing thickness of the Megans... Got em for $205 on the Internet so the difference wasn't worth the uncertainty. But ya, now all I want to do is drive my "new" BMW!

Great little review. I'm doing a suspension overhaul this spring/summer, and Megan/Manzo toe arms are high on my list.

Should you upgrade toe arms after upgrading subframe bushings or can you do toe arms only?

Would the TRW M3 arms be just as beneficial?

M3 wound not fit. Wrong length. But to answer your question, no, they won't be beneficial.

So starting off with stock suspension: M3 front control arms and Megan rear toe arms the best bang for your buck? Anything else I should do while at it?

I don't think there's truly a preferred order to a suspension refresh. Target the most problematic area based on wear-and-tear, your driving preferences, or your budget....There is no S.O.P for doing this.

I'm buying everything I need at once (B12, all new bushings and hardware, M3 Front and Rear, Adjustable Toe Arms, Sway bar bushings & adj. end links, rear subframe bushings, etc), and installing everything in stages, based around an alignment schedule.

B12 will go in first. Once it settles after a few weeks, I'll install Subframe bushings, control arms, etc and get an alignment.

In my opinion, this is the approach that works best for me, as I'd prefer not to HAVE to get multiple alignments in a span of a few weeks.

Hope that helps.

Here's how I see it

Ideal path vs. Ideal setup differ. Ideal path IMO is single change / adjustment in current set up, TEST, additional change / adjustment if needed.
Unfortunately getting an alignment often can become expensive. Especially if done correctly. These "lifetime" alignment shops do not have correct tools, at least not in my city.

PB and J seems to have a grasp on that model ^
