Decarbonising my N47 E90?

First of all, I want to say that I am uneducated when it comes to cars! THe height of my knowledge is changing the light bulbs and checking the oil levels, and that's about it.

So,I just want to know your opinion on the process of decarbonisation on an engine, specifically the N47? My 2011 E90 has 195000km, and I am just curious about this process from a maintenance standpoint, maybe help a bit with DPF clogging since I exclusively drive short trips around town

So, is this thing a hoax? Is it real and required? Does this specific engine have need of it?

Cheers!

It's a real thing. For more complete info, go to the diesel subforum (it says N57/M57 but N47 is the same http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=377 ) and search for Carbon Buildup - CBU is the acronym. Be sure to search out and read the TIS on how to do it.

The general consensus is that the smaller engines (N47), being more heavily loaded and running hotter, have less need of CBU cleaning, and symptoms. This also applies to the I6 engines in bigger/heavier cars (X5 for instance.) It's also driving regime related. My 335d has 126K miles and I've never had to have it cleaned.

CBU has nothing to do with the DPF.

Ok thanks for the info. Might as well try it since it's rather cheap around here, at least I'll know how much buildup there is up until now

The diesels are different and usually more costly than gassers. But there are lots of diesels in UK, so ...
