First Track Days Oct 1-2
I'm going for an instructed weekend October 1-2 with the Delaware Porsche club at NJMP Thunderbolt. My only experience on track was the tiny PCD loop in Greer.
I just had a few questions, which have probably all been answered in some form before- 1. Track insurance. I will likely end up biting the bullet and getting it even though I feel the odds are minimal for anything greater than the deductible. Has anyone done an event with this club who could give insight on how the novice groups are regulated? 2. They are asking for a pre-Tech inspection that has some odd items, including a helmet requirement 5 years newer than the signup forms listed. Is this a normal thing just for them to keep in the files for ins? Can any dealership or shop sign off? http://nebula.wsimg.com/788b51506aca...&alloworigin=1 3. Will I need to take my front tow hook plate mount out to run? 4. My heel-toe is not up to snuff in this car yet. How much am I going to long for the 240's auto-match? 5. Is Sport+ frowned upon or standard? |

Regarding track insurance - I recommend that as a novice you buy it so you will be more at ease on the track. With nearly 100 track days under my belt I no longer buy it. If you go without it, you must be comfortable with paying out of pocket for all damage to your vehicle - cause by you or others.

Regarding the helmet question - forms are frequently out of date - verify the requirements now with the event coordinator - they will not let you run with an out of date helmet. In general I find that 2005 certs are ok this year but not next year. Check before you go to the track or you may be disappointed
Don't worry about heel and toe issues in the novice group - your goal will be to learn the track and the driving line. And to learn to be aware of what is around you and to spot flag signals. My STRONG advice - don't push it in early sessions. The speed will build naturally as you move to the 3rd and 4th session and certainly on day 2. Also, most instructors don't allow switching the nannies off for new drivers. Take your time, learn the track, learn the driving line, and most of all m, relax a bit and enjoy. Oh - and yes, run with your toe hook in the front bumper. Add a rear one too if you can. What car are you tracking?

you don't have to remove the plate, but it would be a good idea.
