Behold the BMW XM by AC Schnitzer

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Courtesy of Pistonheads, the BMW XM by AC Schnitzer.

'A perfect symbiosis of technical sophistication and aesthetic elegance', says Schnitzer. With 750hp...

It would be easy to understand some of the better-known BMW tuners passing up the opportunity to fettle the XM. It’s a lot, in every respect, and focusing on the more traditional M cars while those are still around seems sensible. But seemingly they can’t get enough; there’s already been the Thor upgrades from Manhart, plus quite a few others, and now AC Schnitzer has turned its hand to the BMW SUV everyone loves to hate.

Simply called XM by AC Schnitzer, it takes the standard car up to Label Red levels of power. So that means what was 653hp and 590lb ft becomes 751hp and 664lb ft. Achieved through nothing more than ‘optimisation’, Schnitzer says its work delivers ‘unprecedented performance’. Sounds about right.

But performance has only ever been part of the XM story, be that in standard or modified forms. It’s about making an impact, more than anything. To that end, the AC Schnitzer conversion gets new front wings, rear spoiler and even fins to ensure it really stands out - even compared to other XMs. Apparently all the components have been developed ‘with a view to improving downforce values’. AC Schnitzer spacers add 10mm to the track width each side and work in conjunction with the standard wheels for a bit more stability and visual impact. But really they’re there to be used alongside Schnitzer’s new 23-inch wheels; the AC5 Flowforming rims have been designed for BMW’s latest SUV, and are said to be instantly recognisable as Schnitzer items with the pentagonal hub cap. Here they sit on 295-section front tyres and 335-section rears.

There’s an interesting line from Schnitzer at the end of its XM press release, once the additional aluminium inside has been mentioned. ‘The new BMW XM by AC Schnitzer embodies the essence of performance, dynamism and exclusivity. It polarises, is absolute luxury class and a real statement.’ They know this isn’t going to appeal to everybody, but more and more that seems like exactly the point of the XM. So don’t be surprised if a few more follow Schnitzer’s lead…

I like the wheels and the power increase. The body pieces vary from looks good (front clip) to too much (rear wing).

I’m curious to know what they did for the power increase and what it could possibly do on an XM Label which is essentially just a base model with the same, but factory-tuned engine.

Bet dollars to donuts it’s just a base model with the tune. If you notice the power output, it’s just 741 ( yes I just just 741hp lol) but really that’s only what …. A 3hp bump over a label .

Not feeling the ACS design and way overpriced ABS bits.
Tune wise, last time I've checked, they used some piggyback module from Germany that is ridiculously priced.

Not bad looking. It could do w/o the illuminated kidney surround.

I have yet to see one body kit that looks good on any modern BMW. This does not change my opinion.

I have an ac Schnitzer front lip for my 240.. ABS or not… it’s FAR more stout, well made, and better designed than the carbon front lip I’m currently running from a UK manufacturer. I’m currently biding my time till the thin carbon explodes from a rock or curb and I can fit the bomb proof ac Schnitzer lip. I think they make quality products even if not every ones cup of tea.

It has the right stance, and it speaks a lot to BMW design that for first time since E36 days, ACS makes a BMW product look better vs stock..

+1… the front lip isn’t bad but definitely not digging that rear wing. Not a fan of the fins on the front bumper either. I’m surprised they didn’t make side skirts as part of their aerodynamics offering, it would’ve made it more aggressive. I dig the wheels in black but look like it’s going to be a pain to clean (lol), I bet for whatever price ACS will charge for it, might as well get some custom forged wheels instead.

Anyone know what ACS pricing will be for these pieces?

Is AC Schnitzer trying to become the Brabus of BMW? I noticed they removed the X///M label

Agree, was totally expecting to hate it, but honestly I think this is the best I’ve seen an XM look.

The rear spoiler in particular works for me.
