Porsche 911 GT3 Named 2014 World Performance Car of the Year
I guess you could call it a flaming success.
Or one hot car. Or so good that it lights itself on fire. http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...-car-year.html

[It's terrible for the owners that have been effected, but I can't resist a bad piece of humor...]
(say it with 'jazz' hands of course...) "Porsche is on f_i_r____e." |

People will forget the fires just like they did with the 458. If you can afford a GT3 you probable have a few other nice cars and bikes. These guys will live.

This award has caused a fair amount of outrage on Rennlist amongst owners, etc. given the issue with the replacement engine on the 2014 GT3. Many posts about Porsche actually should have refused the award, and/or the car not even being given the award due to the faux pas at its release. There is definitely a lot of pent up angst about the whole issue which will of course still take months to resolve as the new batch of engines aren't supposed to be produced until the week of 22nd April.
Regardless, it is a tremendous car; without a doubt the best looking of the 991 variants by far IMHO. Not the incredible all-weather DD that the TT(S) is of course, but still the closest to an actual race car that we've seen from Porsche in the 991 line yet, whilst still being able to be driven daily. I'd still love to have one but am (very) concerned about residuals of the 2014's at this point in time, and frankly the new Z06, especially in the Z07 iteration, will simply blow it away on track for 66% of the cost; hence that's why I have my name of the list for one. It will be an interesting comparo tho How about the 3800 lbs Z28 puttin down an 0.5 sec whooping against the 991GT3, on the same track, on the same day, by the same race driver (albeit a GM factory race driver AND the Z28 had R-comp tires). It seems absurd to me ...but numbers don't lie, however magazines and car manuf marketers do. |

What magazine compared the Z28 to the GT3? It wasn't the latest Motor Trend. |

Unfortunately, for your point ...we are talking about street cars, not F1. And 2 seconds between 2 street cars on the same track is 2 car lengths across the finish line = not "decimate" ...just beaten. Here is the insane article about that Z28 vs. 991GT3 http://www.autoweek.com/article/2014...NEWS/140329817 |

80 mph is 117 feet per second… you must have a really, really long car. I'm beginning to wonder if the C7 non-Z06 may set faster lap times than the GT3. |

It doesn't really matter which car is 0.5 sec ahead of the other here. The bottom line is, in terms of lap times, they're close. Who would've thought! |
