New BMW App

This was posted in the x5 forum and thought I'd post it here too.

Finally coming to the US on April 12.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to finally getting it here in the USA, as long as it really is an upgrade, and adds new functionality, not taking away anything that we already had.

Ok, but all of the "new" features mentioned in that article are already present in the current app for US customers. Based on what was mentioned, the only kinda new thing mentioned is the use of the digital key function which we "hope" will be finally retro-activated for iDrive 7 vehicles built before July 2020 - and post July 2020 build iDrive 7 BMWs already have this functionality.

So I am not impressed (yet) as right now this just seems like a marketing "face lift" for an app that does not add any truly new functionality. What I also think is ironic is the article makes it seem like US customers have been deprived of BMW features for so long. When in reality, with very few exceptions, non-US customers seem to complain more about lack of BMW feature availability in other countries. We almost always have it better in the US when it comes to features like these (unless there is some silly/arcane US law in the way - like for anti-dazzle lights).

Hell, with the exception of the 360 camera view and remote software upgrade part, all of the main features listed in the article have been available on my F80 M3, purchased back in December 2016, equipped with iDrive 5/6. So I won't hold my breath....

Is this an April Fool joke? Because the current app does everything listed in the article.

Yeah I read the article twice to see if the new app offered anything newer than what’s already available in the connected app

Knowing BMW and their technology glitches I'm betting there will be problems. I'm already stocking up on popcorn so I can sit back and watch the ranting.

Well, Alexa seems to be new but everything else as you guys mentioned is certainly not "new"...

My BMW app now out in the USA.

I think the "All Good" presentation is nice. But it looks like we've lost several functions of varying importance. And I don't see any new functions that have been added, so unfortunately, I think the My BMW app is a major step backwards from the "BMW Connected" app.

Things I think we've lost:
- ability to beep car horn remotely
- Apple Watch functionality
- Ability to view details of sunroof, trunk, hood opened or closed
- Remote View 360 picture around car
- Remote start vehicle

Thanks for the heads-up...just disabled auto-updates on IOS phone. Wondering if I can hold on to the older app, before it forces me to update.

It's a new app so you can run both until they kill the old one.

they're saying the old BMW Connected app will be killed off mid-June. Hopefully BMW will make improvements on the new one in the meantime.

Even after they kill, you should be able to use as long as you dont delete the app or move to a new phone

- Apple Watch functionality
=> I was never able to make this work on BMW Connected as well
- Ability to view details of sunroof, trunk, hood opened or closed
=> This is huge for me. I used to be able to see, door by door which is open in BMW connected.
- Remote View 360 picture around car
=> I still have this on the new app.
- Remote start vehicle
=> I never used this. Why do you need it other than for ventilation, which is available as a separate option. Not sure if ventilation does not turn on the car.

If you swipe the vehicle finder row - vent timer icon row, remote 3D view is the 3rd option.

Aha, thanks.... only saw the two icons. Didn't realize it was swipeable for more. That's an important one.

I have seen at least 4 people have this confusion today. BMW has to make it a bit intuitive
