Floor Mat interfering with Clutch Pedal...

Okay, this may sound like an odd or trivial post, but I'm having trouble with the floor mat interfering with the clutch pedal. I've had my 330i for over 3 weeks, and it finally occurred to me how many times I found my floor mat overlapping the top of the clutch pedal while I was driving - so much so that surely something had to be going on. You can imagine the hazzard of your floor mat interfering with the clutch while driving!

So...I finally take time to park, push in and out on the clutch and observe what is happening. No kidding, the first or second time I push in the clutch, the mat "sticks" to the back of the pedal, then after about 2-3 more in-outs, it somehow curls and flips up on top of the pedal. For the life of me, I cannot figure out what is going on. How can it work to the top with my foot on it?

I've felt behind the pedal and do not feel anything that could possibly be snagging the carpet - it is smooth. I can't figure out how to solve this problem! And yes, the mat is centered and in the right place! Is it just me, or is anyone else experiencing this problem?

that could be dangerous,

you should spend more time investigating how it happens, and find a way to prevent it. I've never heard of that before.

What kind of floormats are you using?

Are these the BMW mats? Mine came with velcro bases and the mats attach to them to stay in place. If not, you can try to do something similar with your mats to make them sit permanently in a position where they won't interfer with your pedals.

I need to investigate further. It is quite odd...and dangerous. I have the standard BMW cloth floor mats, and I know there is velcro at the back (toward seat), but I need to see if there is anything I'm missing to hold down the front.

I am having the exact same problem. I had to move the mat about 2 inches back so that the pedal no longer touches it. Good thing the velcro holds it there.

I have the standard e90 BMW mats.

This never happened in my e36 or e46s.

I've had my car for 3 1/2 years and just had that problem last month for the first time and again last week after a service visit. It's because someone removed the mats for cleaning and put them back too far forward. Just lift them, pull it back and re-attach to the Velcro and all is well. It's a good idea to check them before driving after someone cleans them.

i had the same problem, i think its because the floor mat was for the sedan and someone put it in the coupe when i got the car. what i did was set it properly and make a new hole.

also a box cutter works great ...

Well considering the OP originally started this thread 6 years ago, he either died from the clutch interference or he fixed the problem already lol.

At least we know someone knows how to use the search feature!

Had this problem before.. Have the BMW all weather mats which came with fail hooks that allowed the mat move slightly forward every-time I got in and out of the car. Velcro saved the day.
