Stuck at Quality Check

Hi guys,

My X7 40i has been stuck at "Quality Check" since April 3rd when it came out of production. That's over a month ago. Called BMW NA number, and they don't seem to have more information, and neither does the dealer. Is this normal? I haven't had this issue with any of the other cars ordered. Is there another source / phone number to get more information?

Mine was in quality check from March 14 until April 11 without anyone knowing why. The genius line said that was somewhat long but not so long as to be worried about it. Others seem to be getting their vehicles more rapidly, though. Mine is scheduled to arrive at the dealer today.

Thank you. I apologize if this is common knowledge, but is the "Genius line" the same as the BMW NA number (800-831-1117)? If not, do you mind providing it?

Finally have a production date according to my dealer. The Genius Line still said no scheduled date.


Ordered: 4/5

Thanks, yeah, that line says Quality Check also. Dealer doesn't know anything, but is trying to reach out to the factory rep. Kind of odd, and makes me worried when my new car needs a month+ for a quality check .

1 844 4GENIUS is the Genius Hotline and usually gives you the most accurate info. Don't choose any of the options and just stay on the line.
You talk to a live person.
Right now their computer tracking system is down though, I was told. (6:30pm ET)

I wouldn't worry. Quality check just a hold status. More than likely a parts delay from supplier or Germany. They obv can't complete the car until every nut and bolt is installed and there's no way for online tracker to tell you that there's a part they're waiting on. I waited 5 months for mine, It's worth the wait and you'll forget how long it took after your drive it the first time.

Just called this number and the Genius that answered said they no longer had access to the tracking system anymore and transferred me to the other general number.

Tried to use the decoder but isn't registering yet.

Yay!!! That’s an exciting day. Don’t get discouraged if the tracker doesn’t look like it’s moving. If you call the 800 number, they’ll tell you an end date, and mine was dead on.

Yeah, it already didn't move for 3 weeks

They are saying the 17th is the completion date. I live in Indiana, which isn't too far. My guy at the dealership said it should take less than 5 days from there, but we will see

Mine was finished last Monday and delivered to Cincinnati on Friday. I’d say Indiana should be about the same.

You can call bmw and talk to an actual person and they can give you an estimate when it will be done. (800) 831-1117

You have to go through some steps and have your production number but keep waiting after the automated voice tells you an update because it won't be right.

Hi folks. New to forum and impressed with how helpful the group seems to be. I placed order with local dealer on 4/5 and am being told it is on hold (i.e., no projected production date) because of black merino leather. Anybody else heard this? Thx.

What was your original allocation date from the dealer? I ordered same weekend as you, with black merino leather, but my dealer had an allocated build spot for that same week. He said had we not got the order in that day we would have had to wait for further allocation

Didn't get one. He took the order but said he was being told verbally (based on a different customer's order) that the merino was the holdup.
