is there any power/tq loss or gain when you delete the resonator?

does the e92 328i have resonators? i read somewhere that it doesn't..
was thinkin of this option to bring up a better tone without deleting the muffler or buying a new one...

Hi All,

Well, I have just come home from getting mine deleted today, it cost $100.

I stuck my head underneath to take a look at their workmanship and I have noticed that they have used a tad smaller diameter pipe that original which I don't think that's a big drama as the E90 pipes are huge anyway, but what I have noticed that instead of putting the 'Y' junction at the point of cutting the two engine pipes just as it went into the original resinator, they have extended the duel piping and placed the 'Y' junction where the end of the resinator would have been.

Effectively this has lengthened the two egine pipes by about 2 feet.

Does anyone believe this will be an issue ?

Fritzables.

G'Day Shragon,

It sound pretty good indeed. Not too loud but you can hear a sting when it all starts to resonate and as blue2fire say's - it sounds a lot more throatier.

Once I get the headers on I will have to re-evaluate as I am expecting a major increase in noise.

Yea, I guess it's the only drawback. At first I thought it was more than excessive but one soon gets used to it and I no longer notice it.

To be truthful, mine will only drone at one small RPM range which I haven't taken notice of.

I'll tell ya what, I have some really goo audio gear so I will take it for a drive and create an 'mp3' with driving normally and driving with the drone present - both windows up and down.

Still sounds awesome though......

E90 ANdy,

Just went and meassured the resinator inlet/outlet dimensions on my old one (as I kept in case I ever wish to stick it back on) and the specs are:

Outlet: 66mm
Inlets: 50mm

These are inside diameters.

Okay cool, so basically 2x 2.25in o/d pipes to a 2.5in o/d y-pipe would work?

Thank you very very much for looking for me

Ok E90 ANdy,

I meassured the inlets as being 52mm OD which makes sense as it's 1mm tube but as the cut was made very close to the weld on the outlet it was difficult to atain the correct dimension.

I got 70mm OD, so seeing it's 1mm tube then I would be pretty confident it will be around 68-69mm OD.

As long as the ID is right then the outer can be anything I'm guessing. :-)

Look'n good, I was going to mention to place the actual 'Y' towards the rear, which effectively lengthens the engine pipes. This gives more low down torque.

I have a 323i which has the same pipe as the 325i.

It's a pretty simple mod for a muffler shop and only cost me $50 to get done

I have kept a close look at the welds over time and all seems good.

Go for GOLD E90 ANdy!!!!!

I have a REMUS rear muffler which are quiet in character and that's one of the reasons why I deleted the resonator.

Yes, much deeper and has a crackle when you get up around 6,000, but still very European.

There is an increase in cabin noise (drone) but this only occurs under certain conditions. I no longer notice it. I was going to get an audio clip organised to illustrate what the cab sounds like - but I have fallen into the 'SLACK' department for this week at least.

The note isn't loud at all and sounds great - just right I believe. Will be interested in your feedback actually.

Fritzables.
