Painting Kidney Grill "Chrome Rim"
This was a random thought and impulse "mod".
I was at a friends house on Saturday, he's got all black grill's as well as tinted headlights. I personally do not like that look. But he had a can of Trim spray paint as well and an adhesive promoter. So I got up and pulled on the grill removed the outer chrome rim by carefully lifting every tab. They came right off no broken tabs. Gave it a light sanding and cleaning a few hours later done. I'm really enjoying the way it looks with the "si" gunmetal/gray kidney's. Here are a few shots, today when I was walking towards the car from the office, I could see it from far away and it looks great!! What are your thoughts. Sorry I did not take pics of the process. This looks good, the contrast between the slats and the surround is a nice touch!
By the way, what intake does your friend have? Is that what I see behind the grill?

I was showing him the RPI Scoops one week and the next time I saw him he had that behind his grill. It's the PepBoys DIY Intake, he ran a piece of flexible hose to the intake box and installed that cone shaped collector. Spent about $45 and he loves it.
I like a little more reserved approach, so I'm still thinking about getting the Red RPI Scoops, I just don't want to spend $100+ on it. |

2006E85, I really dig your car, as well as those M6(replicas..?) wheels. I used to have the black M6 replicas on my Z3, looked really nice. It's funny how you say you were walking towards your car from the office and noticed that they look great and can see them from far away. You're probably the only person that notices that change in your car lol, same shit for me. Coworkers never notice any little mods I do
As for your friend's car, I want to say I like it but the tinted headlights.. ehhhh.. :/ I still like it lol I have a blacked out Z4 as well; CF look kidneys, blacked out reflectors, blacked out roundels, and Umnitza V2's black housing with a RED RPI scoop behind the kidney grill. The blacked out car look VERY menacing with something red sneaking up behind the grill, intimidating and oh so damn nice. I say do it, $140 brand new is really not bad and you can actually hear some sort of whistling noise when going WOT (according to people I "compare speed with".. |
