Exactly inline 6's are always better, even BMW builds new V6s every once in a while to compare to their inline 6's apparently as they have standards about noise vibration and harshness according to Jalopnik and they always find it inferior to the I6.

"Munich engineers admit that they regularly develop and test prototype V-6s, per internal policy, but say the results don't come close to meeting company noise and harshness standards." - Jason Cammisa

Direct Quote.

At this year's New York Auto Show, BMW AG Sales and Marketing Director Ian Robertson told British car site AutoExpress that the X7 SUV "won't arrive this year or next, but it's well through the development phases," adding "there's very little resemblance to the X5, so it's not an extended wheelbase X5. It's very different—we wanted it to have its own identity."
Which is even more funny, because the interior dimensions (and design) are almost EXACTLY the same between the X5 and X7, until you get to the third row/trunk.

https://g07.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1545902

So really, the X7 **IS** an X5, with a bigger third row.

I mean, we can apply "same sausage different length" to any vehicle lineup from BMW, Merc, Audi, etc.

Well, not quite. Going from the 5er sedan to the 7er sedan, you get a whopping 8 additional inches of legroom in the 2nd row. A whole different level of luxury. Of design. Of little gizmos and car features. The 7 is not a knockoff of the 5, much less the same interior dimensions. The 7 is a truly luxury, stretch-out and relax vehicle. A BMW flagship.

In contrast, Going from the X5 to the "flagship" X7, you get the exact same cockpit design. Same dash. Same shifter console. Even the same crystal shifter knob availability. And an additional 0.2 inches of 2nd row legroom, which is the smallest of all the 2nd row legrooms on the jumbo SUV market.

Zero...

Point...

Two...

Inches...

Sorry, had to say it
the article from jalopnik is actually quoting an article from Road & Track from car (and e30) enthusiast Jason Cammisa and there's a BMW Blog article on it as well https://www.bmwblog.com/2014/09/12/b...pe-v6-engines/ and other websites. It makes sense, BMW tests a lot of things we never find out for a while, I mean look at the E30 and E92 M3 Utes and the entire Giftschrank (Poison Storage) garage, there's so much being done behind closed doors

$93k for my wifey spec... I'm fine with the legroom. All I wanted was an X5 with a 3rd row. It actually bugs me more that it's narrower.

The whole point of the X7 is to fit people in the 3rd row, over 3 ft in the 2nd row is fine.

If you only want 2 rows maybe an X5 or something from the competition is better

I found it quite odd that heated front seats are not included standard and its a $1200 charge to get them

Thats a lot of money for an SUV but its in line with every other large elephant on the road today.

and 37.6" of rear legroom is plenty. how much do you really need? Airlines give you 10" less

Well, I'm actually a bit surprised by this car. I don't think there is a large enough performance difference to justify the 8cyl but a 6 would be too small for this mammoth. 0-60 5.8 seconds? Come on, BMW... you should be able to get that one at 5.2 and the 8cyl at high fours. I'm gonna drive it to make my final judgement but it doesn't look very good right now for us to get this as a family car... a slight but underpowered (and a tiny bit overpriced imho)

Rear-facing and forward-facing child seats are the real issue. The rear-facing ones force you to move the front seats more forward than you want. The front-facing ones keep the toddlers within kicking distance.

Yessssss exactly that. I have that issue right now with my 1 year old. Forget about putting her in my X3, then the front seat has to be moved all the way forward.

And that's the point. The X7 is not a 7-series level SUV. BMW has made the X7 as an X5 with a bigger 3rd row.

As for those saying you don't need anything more than 3 feet legroom in the 2nd row, why would BMW make their flagship 7er sedan with a luxurious 44.4 inches?

(and seriously? We're going to discuss economy airline seats as the standard for luxury vehicles?)

While I hear other people complaints, mine is with the way to configure the vehicle. I like AW Bimmers, so when I pick AW and M-sport it looks horrible from the side, but without the Msport, too much chrome :

Also, who wants to get this vehicle with performance tires ... the all-season should be standard ... soccer moms will not track this vehicle

These are my negatives... from the positives side, it look surprisingly very attractive (aside from the small things Mentioned before)
