Production Time

What's the typical X7 M50i production time until the vehicle arrives at its destination dealership?

I purchased an M50i just about fully loaded with no individual trim/color specifications, which I understand can extend production time. It just entered "Production Begins" status and was assigned a VIN this morning.

Just took delivery of an x7 X40i in North Texas. Ordered from dealer on 10/29/20. Took delivery from dealer 11/20/2020. I have a high volume dealer who does lots of custom orders so it helps to have assembly slots on hand. Still, marvelous timing. Similar delivery last year on my wife's X5.

Hello folks,

Just want to get an idea how soon did your dealership order your car from the factory.

I signed up new X7 m50i 10days ago for custom order. When I asked for order confirmation paper and product # today, the dealership said they have not ordered mine yet.

Is such a delay typical? Custom order will take 4-6 weeks, I don't understand why dealership is holding it without clear reason.

Press the dealer. Ask them if they have a vehicle allocation in state "112" — they may not offer unless you ask. "112" status means the dealer can make last-minute changes that match your order to an otherwise random build they're receiving for the floor.

As for timing, when I asked that, I told them there was urgency to take delivery by Thanksgiving (which was true in my case), and they prioritized placing my build order in a 112 allocation before I even made a deposit. I actually didn't make any deposit/payment until the vehicle arrived, so by comparison to your experience, my dealer went above and beyond to make sure I got mine on time. Then again, I had purchased from them in the past, so this probably helped.
