Help! Found a bolt

Greetings, I recently discovered a noise described as something rolling around the driver side floor. I initial thought one of my kids dropped something that got stuck in the floorboard vent. I took off the b pillar and floor sills and found a bolt under the carpet. I’m happy to have found this annoyance but my wife and I are concerned to what this bolt might go to for our family’s safety. I’m afraid to get the dealer involved since they will essentially have to strip it down to find where it goes and worried to what future issue might arise due to reassembly. What do you all think? Should I just let it be in hopes that it was accidentally left during the manufacturing process or ask the dealer to help with it ?

Seat belt anchor bolt???? It’s rather large so I would also want to know what this is as it’s too big to be a simple trim fastener. I would ask my dealer.

Is there a part # on it? When my wife got her X3 a few years ago, we found several bolts throughout the cabin. Took it to the dealer they didn't even bother trying to find where it went, they just threw it all out in the trash.

By the looks of the threads being clean and never driven in, most likely a bonus fastener. Probably dropped and left in by accident.

Seat belt bolts are usually reverse torx bolts so I doubt it has anything to do with the seat belts. It is difficult to tell from the pictures, but the bolt looks clean and new, like it has never been installed/used. I agree with what was posted above that someone may have been a bit sloppy at the factory....

that's probably the manufacturer and the hardness of the bolt. Won't tell you what it is for.
