BTW, when my trainer took mine, he used some gizmo that ran an electrical current through me, measuring resistance. I would assume that this device can account for muscle mass vs fatty mass.
That device should measure body fat percentage which is a much better indicator of fitness than BMI. There no reason to run an electical current through you to measure BMI. You get that with a scale, tape measure and calculator.

BMI is pointless without getting a body fat percentage to go along with it.

Go to a gym and get a reading.

I would usually agree with you, but I've been working out for a while, and it helps to change things up every once-in-a-while. I figured a BMI reduction goal would be a good change of pace.

Several years ago, I worked out for 3 hours a day for six months and ran a half marathon in an hour and a half. I had like 3% or 4% bodyfat and weighed 182lbs.

I weigh 195lbs and am 5'11". According to the midpoint of the BMI (22), I should be 157lbs.
Perhaps you should re-read my post. I said it works fine for "the majority of people". That in no way applies to everyone. As well, BMI should be taken as another factor of your health, not the end result. I'm relatively lean, but I'm not a "scrawny/nerdy guy". Thanks for the vote of conifdence

I'm 6'0" (ok, 5'11.5") at 172 lbs and my BMI reads 23.32 currently. "Healthy" is between 20.7-27.8, so 24.4 is more a median than 22, fwiw.

If you're ripped or have a muscular build, then BMI won't be as accurate. It is however fine for, again, the majority of folk. Keep rocking those workouts

It all depends how you calculate it. If you use the tradional tape measure method, it will most likely be off.

A more accurate method is using calipers. Also, you can measure BMI electronically to be more accurate.
