My dealer told me about it and works just fine.
I've tried that and it doesn't work for me. What version step of iDrive are you on? I just got upgraded to 03/2020.31 when I last did this test.

I tested this again yesterday. Resting my finger on the "Backside" of the vehicle does not work and the steering wheel lights start flashing after a few seconds. However, if I rest my finger on the "Front" side of the steering wheel it works.

Wait, wait, what? What's the code? I would figure they would make that impossible and hard coded into the system. Please prove me wrong.

yes it's a simple coding. Rgsport can do it with under an hour.

@rgsport did it on mine and it works great. totally hands free. all time at all speeds.

works.

I was out today for a ride (beautiful day) and a made a brief video of it how Active Cruise Control works when I hold my fingers lightly against the back of the steering wheel:

For all it's worth, this is how mine works;

The lower the speed to tighter you have to grip the wheel. At times, a two handed squeeze to get the yellow light to shut off/up.

Below 40 you need to be in control. Or at least touch the wheel in two places. This is where resting both of your hands comes in handy.

But...

The faster you go the more you can let go.

At 55 you only need a light touch. At 65+ I only need to be touching the wheel. No matter how light, as long as I rest a finger on the wheel I can almost ignore the road and let the BMW practically drive itself.

It's even better with the cruise control set because then it will actually slow down for my exit and knows where the stop signs are. It won't stop, but will go all the way down to 20 before warning me to take over. Even with the cruise set to 85.

Great. Can you share how much they charged for that coding? And was it done remotely? Thanks.
