I think I screwed up: Cerium gray trim on my Tanzanite Blue II X7
I think I screwed up ordering the Cerium gray trim on my '21 Tanzanite blue II X7. I like the way the satin finish contrasts with the paint color and black window surrounds. I was just at my detailer that will be correcting the paint, adding XPel PPF and ceramic coating and he said the cerium trim is almost impossible to keep clean and it stains easily. There was a 3 series in the lot that had cerium mirror caps and they looked horrible. He can wrap the grille surround with XPel stealth but not the slats.
For those of you that have Cerium gray trim, do you have a hard time keeping it looking nice? Did you protect it with anything? |

I had the same issue with various MB with "night package" I've owned. The window trim and bits stained and marred easily. MB said it was my fault or oxidation" but would not warranty despite many others having similar issue. No way to protect it and the only solution was to wrap it.

Audi was the same on many of my RS and S cars with matte aluminum trim. I ended up waxing the trim often to keep the staining away.

My wife has a '20 X6 M50i with the extended shadow line trim and it is no problem keeping it clean. I can swap my cerium gray trim for black trim but it is big bucks for the side hockey stick.
Hopefully I can find something that I can protect it with where it stays halfway decent looking. |

I had this issue on the RS4 & it looked like hard water stains. Nothing got them out and Audi had similar response as MB.

Yes cerium is a Matt finish as you know and shows water stains very easily on wing mirrors and on wheels

I had my M550i cerium trim wrapped and ceramic coated and wheels coated. Water spotting on mirrors made me cry, LOL. It's all you can really do except swap the trim with shadowline black.

That's why I also opted for the shadowline trim and non cerium wheels. I saw some used cerium finishes and my self diagnosed OCD self couldn't bare it. I scratched that finish off my list immediately. Hopefully some good ceramic will protect it kinda if you can't ppf the parts.

So if I can advise anyone with cerium gray, use some detailing compound on all cerium gray pieces and I assume this will solve the issue I am quite happy now |
