headlights staying on occasionally after parking

Wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem (I did a search but didn't see any matches).

Every so often, after pulling the X7 into the garage and stopping it (pressing the engine start button only) and walking into the house, the headlights will stay on. The headlights auto-on trigger most of the time when pulling into the garage since it's dark(er). We'll discover this a few hours after parking. We'll open the house door to the garage (attached garage) and will find the lights are still on. The key is in my wife's purse which is inside the house, in the wash room where the garage access door is, so the key is 20' (ish) away and on the other side of a wall.

Locking the car when we see this happening will shut off the lights correctly, so the few times we've encountered this, that's how we solved it.

Would key proximity keep the headlights on after stopping the motor? Is the "follow me home" lighting being triggered somehow and getting stuck on?

We have had the car since Feb 2020, but with the quarantine, we don't go out too often at night, so I don't know if this has happened in parking lots at night, we just don't have that data, it's only happened that we know at home in the garage.

thanks for your thoughts

The whole exit/pathway lighting thing is initiated by flashing the high beams after the car is off. I'm guessing it's more than just the lights staying on? iDrive and all too? If so, there's a few threads on this, it's more than just the lights that stay on which is probably why it didn't come up:
