air conditioning failure 2020 x7
We have a Nov 2019 build 2020 X7 M50i with 10,000 miles and the air conditioner failed. We had left from our Mn home 10 days ago on a trip to Ca and the air conditioner went out going into South Dakota. We were able to make a appt at downtown Denver BMW, they said it was a compressor and condenser failure and after 5 days the new parts were installed. We continued our drive to Ca and the air worked great. Then 2 days ago it stopped working again and we were able to get it into dealership in southern Ca. They said after a day that the evaporator is defective and it will take a undetermined amount of time to get one from Germany. They are offering a car to use and they will ship the car back to MN after the repair is completed. Has this happened to any one else, I did read about other v8 cars on this form having the same problem. The denver dealer gave us a car to use while we waited for repairs and we were told that we would be compensated by BMW assist for hotel and food up to $1000. Is there anything else I should ask for?

Here's what happened:
The dealer misdiagnosed the problem the first time, replaced 2 parts that were working just fine, recharged your entire A/C system and then your defective evaporator leaked the refrigerant out over the next 2 days. |

Out of curiosity. For a properly operating system, what temperatures can you measure from the center console vents with them adjusted to full cold? Please measure the outside temperature too and test in the shade or evening and adjust blowers, zones, and temperatures as done below. I did the following test tonight. Outside temperature: 72 F , 53% RH Test 1 Three rows all on Front set to "low" and fan to high, fresh air Second set to 72, very light fan Third row set to 72, very light fan Measured center vent temperature in front at 44.4 F Test 2 All rows set fan to very strong max blower and 60 "low" Measured center vent temperature in front at 46.4 F Test 3 Front set to very strong max blower and 60 "low" Second and third row set to off Measured center vent temperature in front at 36.1 F It makes sense the measured temperature is lower with other zones turned off especially if the system is low on refrigerant again. Turning those zones off means less refrigerant is needed by the system and is available to serve the front HVAC alone. I am not sure what the design intent is and if that temperature change is expected or does reflect low refrigerant levels again. I used a UV light for refrigerant leak detecting dye and could not spot anything obvious in the engine compartment. I am not sure if they filled with dye when they recharged either.

I have 2019 x7 i50 and have the same issue. Driver side blows cool air but the passenger side is just fan without cooling. Could you let me know how you fixed this problem? I have OEM Platinum Extended Warranty but my dealer is not easy to work with. I had another minor issue prior to this one and they claim that it was an user error and refused to repair under warranty. I asked for a proof but it was the one presented was very vague. I am hope to be better prepared this time by knowing more about the issue.
