RWD vs. Quattro
I have to say that after installing my Dinan Stage 1 tuner I'm spinning my wheels a lot more than before when I floor it. My old S4 never spun its wheels. Granted, there are almost 200lb/ft of torque more on my M4 than my S4 ever had but still, no matter how hard I tried to get them to spin they never did. Sometimes when I hit the gas I can feel a slight slip even going between first and second or second and third because of the sheer power. I wish F8x's were available with X-Drive.

I agree. But sometimes it does.

Be happy you live in a warm weather environment and don't need xDrive. Those of us that need AWD because of all the f-ing snow and ice are relegated to xDrive.
the 60/40 split isn't the problem, the jacked up suspension is.

Need vs. want are 2 different things. Nobody needs AWD but people want it or enjoy it as a crutch. Cold weather tires or a higher ride height may be needed based on depth of snow but awd, no, not needed.

^This! As soon as BMW's M division announces that they will offer the M cars in optional AWD I will be the first in line Had a deposit down for a 6 speed F80 M3 due for May ED. Love the car, but the fact that I live in a snowy/cold climate(SLC Utah) had me a little worried. Even with full on snow tires. On top of that I heard people saying how even on a STOCK F8x M they spin 1st-3rd in DRY conditions going WOT. Which is the majority of the gears I mostly stay in, driving around town. 1st-5th is all I use, besides the occasional freeway onramp assault. In which case I'm sure the new M3/M4 excels at
Recently my wife and I found out that BMW is now making the M235i with the XDrive AWD. Long story short we test drove the 8 speed auto XDrive and I loved the fact that we can mash the pedal in 1st-3rd without ANY wheelspin! Just full power to the pavement. So we decided to hold off on the M3 for now and put an order for an XDrive 235 instead. With a few mods I bet it will be a blast for sure! AMG's make their torque monster cars AWD. M's should at least offer an OPTION for customers who live in colder/snowy climates, and also customers looking to put the power down effectively. For daily driving purposes I want a car that will put the power DOWN onto the pavement and not leave a huge number 11 on the street everytime you feel like having some fun. I also have a modded 400WHP Evo X MR when I feel like having some track fun! AWD is the way to go for daily driving fun IMHO. Burning out on the street in a RWD (even accidentally) causes too much drama and attention, along with a nice ticket from the local authorities... |

Yet another RWD vs AWD debate **facepalm** I live in MN and for those of you that don't know is one of the most brutal winter states. That being said, I traded my subaru to get this RWD beast. AWD is so overrated, it's for lazy people that don't even bother with winter tires and just run the stock all seasons year long (the worst of both worlds). Winter tires + limited slip diff + being a smart driver and light throttle modulations in economy mode and you're more than golden all winter. My winter wheels arrive next week and I am excited! AWD does not help you stop at all, doesn't help with acceleration after say 30 mph, it's heavier in all the wrong places, less efficient, and oversteers like hell.

I have an suv for snow now but before that it was fine. The key was a good set of snow tires all around. I used Dunlop winter sports and they were great in the dry too. Awd can be plenty fun though with the right car. I loved it in my Sti years ago.
