When you convert to US dollars, is it really double the cost? Or near to that? Is it a currency thing or is it a BMW thing? One of my best buddies moved from US to Australia over a dozen years ago. I've always aspired to perhaps one day visit or even for a couple of years move to Australia!

The conversion rate is nowhere near double its about US$1 to AU$1.08. I think bmw charge more to Australia (along with most other brands who inflate prices here just because they can - not just cars) plus the taxes here are higher, especially on luxury cars. But then again some Asian countries have it even worse than us so cant complain too much!

It's all customs duties. Australia, China and other Asian countries get raped on imports. Nearly 100%, sometimes more. Other countries such as middle east generally about 50% in fees.
It's just a money grab by the governments. It has nothing to do with money conversions. |

4 years ago, I bought a 1 bedroom apartment in a mid-high rated suburb which costed $430k with a deposit of about $85k cash. A house in the same area is about $800k up to well over $1-2Millon.
So to purchase my BMW which might be in the near future, it will cost about the same as the deposit on my apartment Makes me wonder whether I should get an investment property over updating my car.... but... YOLO! |
