So the Vector is a slim-profile style cargo box then?
Yes, there is good and bad to that. The good is it definitely cuts through the air much better, I know you are not supposed to go over 80 but on an 800+ mile trip, we just took it's impossible for my foot not to do that.

It as solid at 90 as it was at 50 on the highway. I tried not to keep it it at that speed for long periods of time. I watched it through the sunroof and it really didn't move anymore than normal.

Coupled with the Yakima flushbars it was also really quiet, there are times I completely forgot it was up there. That is also because the X7 is so quiet. I also think it helped with gas mileage. I averaged about 20mpg, which to me was great considering how loaded up the car was and the box on the roof.

The only negative is the space is a bit limited due to the roof profile. I still managed to get one medium suitcase, two carryons and two soft duffle bags in it though. It was tight but it all worked. It would be great for ski's its set up well for them.

I do love the lighted interior its helpful at night.

Here is one more pic before we headed out.

Not in the options you are asked about...but as I was looking I wanted to see pics of all the options. I put a small inflatable paddle board 4 bike helmets, several life jackets, two duffle bags and a bunch of other odd and ins. I'm still learning how to pack it but it was very helpful.

Just scooped a 2023 X7.

I’m leaning towards the Thule Motion XT L. Seems to work well for the price. Added bonus of the grey color to loosely match the Skyscraper gray of the car (but that is not the driving factor)

Need to find the lowest, most quiet cross bars now.

i have the Motion XT XXL on mine. Go bigger. if you are already thinking about getting a rooftop carrier - i would say anticipate going bigger. Especially considering how little cargo area there is in the back with the 3rd row up. All thule boxes are 20% off with free shipping on thule.com now.

Any reason beside preference you aren't going with the BMW Roofbox?

I've got the older version of that Thule Box on an X5 and haven't had a problem with reception of any kind for what it's worth.

Personally, I'd go bigger and go XXL as I've said countless times "I wish I had just a bit more room overall" while I have yet to say "This is too much room and wish it was smaller."

The Thule Motion XT's (I have the XL) have indentations on the underbody of the boxes so the shark fin fits right in between the indentations.

I haven't noticed any interference with Sirius whatsoever.

Also, great thing about these boxes is that the position of all 4 clamps are adjustable by a few inches, so that you can slide the box forward or rearward depending on your setup and how you want it to look.

After a ton of research, I am going with the Thule Motion XT. What I need help with is the size, XL or XXL. The XL is on backorder and I should get it in time for a trip in August you never know.

That being said I can get the XXL pretty much now, they are in stock. I dont know if I need the extra 2 cu ft, but I was thinking it doesnt hurt.

My concern/question is will it look too big on the X7. Love to see some pics of people who have either of these, especially if anyone is using Yakima low-profile bars.

For reference, the XL is on the left and XXL on the right.
Thanks!!
Personally I have a Thule Force XXL and think going for the largest box was a good decision asthetic/function wise. I didn't want to have a moment where I wish I had something bigger. The Motion is longer and wider than the Force by some inches but they have the same exact cubic feet inside with the Force handling bulkier items because of the shape towards the end.

Here's a picture for reference on the Force XXL and the Motion XXL should only be a few inches longer. IMO its better to be prepared incase extra space is needed and and the visual size difference doesn't bother me.

FYI i'm using Thule Wingbars since im planning on using Thule accessories when my son wants to go camping.

edit: after reading through the thread the Force is not very popular just like the luxury line my wife picked lol.
