Owned the X7 11 months.

In/out of the car 6x a day minimum.

A must have for kids under 10.

No dirty pants.

Thank you.
Probably right for the taller folks. I'm not that tall and I rub the back of my pant leg getting out every time. I just note if it's rainy and do the old man hop if it is 😂

I would like some electric ones that stay completely under the car unless you open the door.

Agreed the running boards are not great they are half way to useful/useless coming from an Escalade the height made the boards necessary and convenient. The x7 is not a car or large SUV (height wise) so they just don't work. I would not option then again if you could.

If you have running boards shouldn't you use them when exiting the vehicle and wouldn't this prevent any rubbing of the legs?

Yes. However, stepping on the running boards when exiting the vehicle is a bit "awkward" as I found out on a test drive - I probably spent 5+ min getting in/out of the X7 using different techniques with the running boards. My frame of reference is a car (no running board required obviously) and my slightly lifted Ford Expedition EL SUV (running boards required). As what was alluded to a few posts above, my (brief) experience was that the X7 is at a height right in between where running boards are useful/useless IMHO. However, for me, I would still bias towards getting them and spec them for an ordered X7.

That said, the more I learn about the aftermarket retractable options, the more I like the possibilities. But I still have some reservations based on the current options available and admittedly would not want to be the guinea pig....

Out of curiosity, which kit do you actually plan to go with? Are you going to use a specific eBay vendor or buy direct from the manufacturer (via Alibaba) from the link you posted above?

we don't use a ski rack or cargo box, but I imagine you could stand on the back rear tire too, if you had to.

Ebay sellers offer double price, but products looks same. Most probably I will buy directly from manufacturer. Anyway, after installation will post my feedback.

Let's see when my beauty will arrive, this corona madness can impact delivery dates.

Has anyone installed the electric, retractable steps? If so, how did you run the wires from inside the cabin to the outside? I've looked at the door sill step guard and I've looked for possible grommets behind the driver's gas and brake pedals. Unfortunately, I haven't found any viable openings.
