PCD worth the hassle? Update with pics!

So I am scheduled to take performance center delivery of my M50i on the 13tb. The car is already done and I’m thinking of just doing it the traditional way. One reason is they don’t actually use an M50i model for the track portion. It’s not the biggest deal, but I’m not sure if the whole thing is worth the hassle considering the fact that this isn’t a sports car I’m picking up and being shown on the track. Anyone else have feedback on the experience when it comes to the x7 delivery? Thanks

Yes, do it. I am not sure where you are located, but if it is a reasonably easy journey from where you are, you will absolutely enjoy it. You will (probably) get to drive some “X” vehicles, as well as some sports cars. It’s a lot of fun, and is well worth it. I took PC delivery of my E92 M3, and it was a blast! Not only did we get to “thrash” somebody else’s cars for a bit, we had some (admittedly “light”) driving instruction, got to take a “hot lap” with a guy that knows his way around performance driving, AND do an obstacle course on some “X” vehicles. It’s an experience I am willing to bet you will enjoy.

Of all the reviews I've read, I don't think I've ever seen anyone give less than a great review of PCD. If I can make the logistics work, I will 100% be doing PCD with my X7, regardless of what model we do for track drives, and such.

+1. Everyone drives an M3 for part of it and the braking portion isn’t a difference for a 50i. Off road won’t matter either. The hot lap is with a pro driver behind the wheel in what I recall was an M5? As for the one track portion - I suspect it’s possible to they will have a 50i soon. And I had NO problem nearly running ppl with faster smaller models with the 40i. Basically, they weren’t driving them like they stole it as I was. I had to pause every lap to get some space back.

It was great and I would do it again. If it’s already at the PDC, I imagine bmw would moan about changing.

Is it true that the PCD is only for South Carolina? Isn’t there also a Southern California school too?

Yes on the SoCal school, but there is no manufacturing there, and no vehicle deliveries.

It really depends on whether you have done it before. I've done three deliveries there for x6 and 2 x6Ms and enjoyed them and the drives back. It also helps you to take care of the break-in. I suspect driving X7 on the track is not as much fun so wouldn't do it just for that.

My 40iM on order has the exact color combo, in and out. I contemplated over the brown polar matte finish but went with it in the end. It looks great!

You’ll love it. The trim is probably my favorite part of the interior. I was hesitant about coffee but it’s so nice and a good middle ground between dark and light interior.

Logistics

I am ordering my X7 this week (Luxury, Tanzanite/Ivory - Love the Chrome trim on Blue exterior and must have the Ivory with the Light Headliner)

Here are a few logistics questions...Any help from members of this forum (including pointing me in the direction of established PCD threads) would be greatly appreciated

When, relative to the date I place my order, should I expect to be assigned my PCD Date?

How am I notified of my PCD date?

How flexible will BMW be with my PCD Date (i.e. if a Wednesday is assigned and I need it to be a Friday, will they allow me to switch dates? Can I delay the PCD for my built X7 by several weeks?)

Does Thanksgiving and Holidays impact my Fall PCD (i.e. is this process suspended for weeks/months in November/December)?

Does PCD allow me to take delivery of my X7 sooner than if it was delivered to my dealer (Virginia)?

Thanks!!

I know they will offer you some flexibility. Fridays fill out first so try to get back to them with a preferred date as soon as you can after they reach out to you. I think they have some flexibility to delay your delivery but it's not very long, may be up to 4 weeks. They are closed on all major holidays. I am not sure you will save a lot of time by picking up there vs at the dealer, may be a couple of days at most.
