With the release of iOS 13 just days away I'm be curious if other X7 owners experience no CarPlay connection issues as I have been enjoying while using the iOS 13 Public Beta. So if you're not currently running the beta and are experiencing connection issues using CarPlay, post your results after downloading iOS 13 when officially released by Apple.

The word is iOS 13 can be installed on iPhone 6s and later.

I just received my x7 2020 last week. I have been using it since with CarPlay on iOS 13.1, and have not had a single issue

Same here. I had my car updated a few weeks ago to 7 2019 39. And haven't had a single issue. (Knock on wood) I am on iOS 13.1

Also if anyone is interested they brought back automations in shortcuts app. I have it to start playing a playlist from Apple Music when CarPlay connects. This was the only thing that was sporadic. Sometimes it would start playing music sometimes it wouldn't. This ensures it will if you want that feature.

Just FYI. The gm version is out now. Don't have to have dev profile. It's very stable and awesome.

If you're not in the Developer Beta you have to at least be signed up for the Public Beta program to download the Grand Master today. Should be available to everyone in about a week.

That's fantastic news, but what version of iDrive 7 firmware are you running? Must I upgrade to the latest version at my BMW dealer for CarPlay 13 to perform in a rock-solid manner?

EDIT: Just read your other post where you said you upgraded to 7 2019 39. Was this something you downloaded onto a USB or did you have to go to the dealer to have them do it? I am running 3 2019 35.

It has been my experience that the CarPlay connection issues many are experiencing have little or nothing to do with the version of iDrive you may be using. It appears the issues is with the iPhone itself since upgrading to iOS 13 has resolved the connection issues for me. I'm on a 03/2019 version of iDrive so I'm convinced iOS 13 is the fix. No doubt the newer versions of iDrive will fix other problems with their software but as for CarPlay, iOS 13 should do the trick.

Dealer. I have never gotten any ota updates to work sadly. I think mine is already out of date and it's only been three weeks.

I'm not signed up for public beta but was for dev. I deleted my dev profile and my phone still upgraded.

The GM is only available to Dev or Public Beta testers. As I posted above, it will be released to the public soon.

Question:

To update my iDrive 7 to the latest version, which of the following is true:

1. I can do it over the air.
2. I can go to a BMW webpage and download it to USB.
3. I have to make an appointment and have BMW do it.

For what it’s worth, connectivity is better for me on iOS 13, but in the week I’ve had it installed on my phone there have been two occasions where it didn’t activate CarPlay upon turning on my vehicle.

You should see a vast improvement connecting CarPlay to iDrive. And you'll appreciate the many improvements to CarPlay.

I have been using IOS 13 with carplay for a while, and it works great. I have noticed one issue though. If i leave my phone on the wireless charging pad, eventually it gets very hot. When it gets too hot, it seems to disconnect from carplay. If i then take it off the pad, it will reconnect after a minute or so.

Thanks Joe, I decided to delete my iPhone from the X7 and delete it from the CarPlay profile on my iPhone. I want to do a clean install.

When connecting my iPhone back to the X7, normally I would only connect through CarPlay and not through the “standard“ Bluetooth connection to the iDrive system. Is that the appropriate approach? Or should I be creating a Bluetooth connection between CarPlay first and then over on the BMW iDrive side?

Interesting... getting iOS 13 downloading for my iPhone XS Max. But my older iPhone 6 is on 12.4.1 and still says no OS update is available. I see on the wikipedia page for iOS 13, that it does not support the 5, 6, or 6 plus, so I guess you need an iPhone 7 or higher to get it.

I've just updated to iOS13 but my Shortcuts app doesn't have the Automation tab. Did Apple turn this off in the official iOS13 release? I was looking to some automation when CarPlay connects.

So far so good, I'm 4-for-4 getting in/out and starting/stopping the X7 on various trips the past few hours.
