Winter tire/wheel packages

I have a carbon black metallic X7 50i with M sport and 22” wheels. It came with summer performance tires. I live in a NYC suburb and am thinking the winter will be terrible on these.

I’m thinking I either need to change out the tires to all seasons, or pick up a set of winter/all season wheels and tires to throw on at least in winter. (Actually thinking all seasons so that, just in case I’m lazy and can’t get to a mechanic to swap them out and balance them, at least I can go with them indefinitely).

Tirerack has like no options or very limited options for this vehicle. At least in the 22” and even 21” sizes. I think too much smaller than that may look silly on this car.

What’s a smaller size I can go to without it looking odd. 19”? 18”?

Also either here or on a Facebook X series group, I saw an X5 in carbon black metallic with gold-ish/bronze colored rims, and I thought the combo looked awesome. I should try and dig up some pics. Couldn’t find any wheels in that color on tirerack. Any idea where else I should be looking?

Thanks!

I ordered an X7 M50i and the dealer told me the only tires you can get that fit the 22’s are for the Bentley Bentayga. $600 each and they only sell them to you if you own a Bentley....

Don't listen to stealers... tirerack has the OE tires and your dealer should too. The 22" oe tires are around 2000 per set.

Bmw has 20" wheels in other markets standard. So we know 20s will clear the brakes. Once you go to 20s the number of tire choices goes up big.

There are plenty of aftermarket wheels now that BMW has the 5x112 bolt circle used by Mercedes and Audi.

Sorry should have been more specific in my comment. The dealer told me the only all season or winter tires that you can get for the 22's are the bentley tires. Last time I checked on tire rack and they only have summer performance tires for the 22's.

Got it, Yeah that's true.

Try simpletire.com

Bmw North America last year told me they expected the take rate for the 22s to be low in the north east because of lack of all season tires for the Rear. Goes to show the dealers don't pay attention to these details.

I'd just get a 2nd set in 21" and get theBridgestone winter rft in 285/45/21

Bentley does not produce tires so it must be one of the usuals all you need is to check brand and model

I agree winters need to have some tire and narrower so I would not be surprised if there is 20" option

I am also waiting as I am in MN

Are there 21” all season tire options that would work? If so, maybe I’ll just get a set of those on new wheels.

Yeah, and that's probably the biggest reason I'll be going with the 21" wheel option on the vehicle from the factory, so I have 21" on the car all year round, both summer and winter tire sets.

The factory 21s are all season by Bridgestone or Continental and maybe Pirelli

I just bought this combination. Would this be sufficient? Any thoughts or input is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Personally my wheel choice would be something more appealing to the eye and easier to clean.

would 20s clear the msport brakes or catch on anything else? I'm thinking about getting a set of 20s with winters.

I was looking at these wheels and tires on tirerack.com too. I'm just not sure about the durability of these after-market rims.

From my previous post:

I did ask my local dealer and was quoted $7k CAD for 21" 752 style rims with Blizzak LM-001 RFT.

They're around $1000 USD per wheel

i paid 4200, pre tax, for the 21" 754m on blizzak rft. that's the price to target in the US i think. PM me if you want a NY contact that might offer same price again

4200 puts each rim at 700 or so, which i found reasonable.

Tirerack really only offers the SAVINI BLACK DI FORZA BM14 in a 21" wheel. (Nothing for 22". The 20" are kind of ugly IMO)

I am looking at them in gloss black for my carbon black X7.

Not many other options. Guessing these will look fine, and the blizzaks should keep me out of trouble this winter.

Thoughts on these?

Shouldn't we consider a wheel offset?
Is there any problem with brake calipers or wheelhousing interference?

If you put my vehicle in -- 2019 X7 50i with run flats -- this is what it offers as compatible.

Offset is a good question though. Answer me something stupid on that -- what the heck is offset? And if it's staggered, does that mean you have the rear wheels poking out a few millimeters more than the front wheels? Out of my depth here...
