I asked my Dealer when the allocation becomes available and they weren't sure. Any ideas when these things will be built?

BMW Individual Fineline wood trim with aluminium inserts on the upper console area finishes off the exclusive feel of this special X7.

BMW Individual Piano Black trim on the lower center console is used as a backdrop for the limited-edition badge.

Q4 stated for the USA. That's as much as we know, AFAIK. But Q4 starts this week, so...???

I had left them working out the exact configuration of the Dark Shadow, which they eventually just pretty much verified the info here in this thread.

However, today they came back on a request I was sure was going to fail. The dealer says they worked with corporate, and have added three things to my specific Dark Shadow build: DHP, spare tire, and RES. They said they were not able to add the tow package.

Naturally, I'm verrrrry skeptical, especially about the RES. I don't suppose anyone else has tried this as well with their DS build.
Just guessing and not that I have any insight
But I have a strong feeling that they will allow adding all those packages to the shadow line, as it's one of the highly demanded options. I don't see why wouldn't they.

This 2021 option elimination because of "parts shortages" doesn't make any sense. Non-USA vehicles can order most of the 2020 options so where is the shortages at?

It is amazing. I drove my sister-in-law's X7 without DHP and then mine again to see if I could still detect a significant difference; still night and day around town and in parking lots.

The shortage is in the US market 😝
Since it's being built here, we have to pay the tax for the rest of the world.

Well, this is interesting. My CA emailed me this build sheet for me, which does in fact show that they added DHP and Spare Tire to my build. But not trailer hitch. (personal info blanked out) I'm rather surprised about this, but it looks like it's actually happening. And notice that RES (option code 6FH) is actually listed as included, for no charge! When it's not even available for MY2021, other than Alpina. Less reason for me to back out now. We haven't started to discuss price.

Sure enough, the MyBMW tracker is showing the Dark Shadow edition, with DHP and spare tire added. No trailer hitch, but RES "standard". Color pictured here obviously not the actual Dark Shadow frozen grey

Wait, wait... I just did a fine-tooth comb review of that build sheet, and notice that Rear Entertainment System (code 6FH) is actually listed in the build, at no charge! It's also listed in my MyBMW production tracker, too. This option isn't even available in MY2021, other than Alpina. Perhaps this does give Dark Shadow an edge on being a special Limited Edition model?

You mean not available for 2021 models as 2020 had the most options ever available. 2021 models cant get ambient air or even night vision at all.

Nice to see they corrected their previous announcements and that my prediction came true 😉.

Good luck 🍀 and enjoy the ride

RES should certainly be on the DS. BMW needs to better source these options to the top tier vehicles.

Whoops, yes. Corrected above. I tend to do that when in one calendar year, and talking about the next model year that's out. I was planning on ordering Ambient Air and Night Vision on my X7, until BMW cut them for MY2021. Those you can't even get on Alpina in the USA.

Hey. On the build sheet it's listed as 6FH, Rear Seat Entertainment Professional, for N/C. This lines up with the same option code that was available for purchase on MY2020 and 2019.

On the MyBMW tracker, it's actually under "Standard Features" as Rear seat Entertainment.

Since I'm taking screen shots of my MyBMW tracker, I also included one of what it shows for the paint and leather there.

Just found out I have a week 45 build, which is November 2-8.

Do you have one on order too?

You better discuss price soon because they already know you're hooked and it will only get worse as you get closer. Glad this is working out for you

For those that haven't seen this webpage, other than the press release this seems to be the only page dedicated to the Dark Shadow edition.
https://www.bmw-m.com/en/topics/maga...w-edition.html

My dealer still can't make up their mind as to the final configuration and MSRP of the car, much less us make a deal on final sales price. I'm so close to just walking away, or calling another dealer or broker to pick up my production slot. My BMW tracker is still sitting at dot 2, but I know others have already started production early.

Anyone get their Dark Shadow model yet? Like, anywhere in the world? Supposedly they've been rolling off the line. Mine is still "scheduled for production", 2 weeks away in week 45. Other week 45 builds have been entering production early.

My dealer still can't sort out the final configuration. One thing that was fixed, I specified Captain's chairs at time of order, but the 2nd row configuration wasn't listed at all on my build sheet, one way or another. My dealer said the "Call In" arrived to them with Captain's Chairs specified to "no", but they "begged and pleaded with the factory (ok) and added the Captain's Chairs".

They insist that although other things can (and have) be added to a Dark Shadow model, you can't add the trailer hitch, "as it affect the hang-on parts (i.e. aero kit)".

One remaining thing, I pointed this out: In the X7 ordering guide, option 4M5, Leather Dashboard, is both required, and included at no charge with VB__ Full Merino Leather. (ordering guide attached here) The build sheet includes the VBHX Full Merino Leather, but charges $850 for the 4M5 Leather Dashboard.

They are checking to ensure that the 4M5 leather dashboard is no-cost, coming with the VBHX Full Merino Leather.

Was offered a Dark Shadow Edition when I ordered my X7. Seemed like the dealer couldn't get anyone to bite. They had two allocations and ended up trading one away the same day.

I didn't consider it given they would have charged me full MSRP...kept mentioning one of kind and high demand model with great resale...but now reading here that some options can't be selected and you're stuck with a pre-configured option list...no thanks.

Looks great and all, but given the 2021s had already lost some options I wanted, wasn't about to lose more with this edition. I'm sure there will be more special editions later on.
