Mine finally prepared itself for installation today as well.

Took the full 20 minutes. And unfortunately I can confirm that at least some, perhaps all, of my coding is gone. Afterwards, the car started right up in the default comfort mode, instead of the Adaptive mode I had coded.

I didn't have a lot of time to explore everything afterwards, but I also couldn't find the climate rules for seat heating and ventilation. I'm having the "all doors open" thing, and my MyBMW app keeps telling me the driver door is open, and fails to do a 3D view update.

Hopefully everything will settle out with a little bit of time, and maybe some resets. We'll see.

Sorry to spoil the discussion but DriveRecorder is possible to be coded? Do you mean like the feature itself or some additional modifications?

Any issue with laggy screen transitions between iDrive screens? That's a big concern as well as some of the other issues being reported here. I might just hold off on this update or skip it completely.

I can confirm that almost all of my coded features are wiped. Only thing I've found to remain is the trunk closing from key fob. My Drive Recorder is also indeed reset, with all stored recorded videos deleted. Glad I read about that here--I wouldn't have thought to get back in the DR and set it up again.

Laggy screens are not an issue for me.

Annoyingly, I set up sporty exhaust yesterday (it had reset) and this morning the cold start was still very underwhelming. Its almost as welcome as coffee in the morning so I'm getting irritated that it keeps switching back to adaptive exhaust note...

I noticed you guys are getting 03/2020.50 version. Mine is 03/2020.57 for some reason. and is really laggy.

If mine comes with .57 I'm definitely not going to install it then. Lag is killer for my OCD.

I also have .50 installed and no lag issues (apparent to me at least).

That's just great, losing all the coded options.
Does this mean every time there's an OTA software update, coding options will be lost.
I read that the exhaust note is tuned down for the M50i.
Have you noticed any improvements with this update?

Good to know there's no laggy screen transitions.

I'm confused about the cold start your talking about. What do you mean you "set up sporty exhaust"? There are no exhaust setup options on my X7. I definitely won't install this update if it doesn't allow the exhaust valve to open on cold starts like it does now.

Are you not able to get the cold start exhaust sound to work at all since the update?

Regarding loosing coding after a factory software update, yes, that has always been the case with coding and will most likely remain that way barring any major change to how BMW programs their vehicles.

I've only spent about 45 minutes in the car since the update, and no, haven't noticed any improvements yet. Haven't noticed any difference in the exhaust note.

FWIW, I considered skipping this update, but BMW does recommend installing as soon as it's available.

It's likely that every OTA update, something you've coded will get lost, but reportedly it depends on which modules are being updated. So you may lose a lot, maybe none. I'd be prepared to recode after every OTA update that's applied.

Is there any compelling reason to update ? I have no problems with the current version so I'd rather skip these updates. Any potential problem with that?

I don't think there's a problem with skipping, other than you'll have the recurring notification sitting in your iDrive, and in the MyBMW app.

Oh, I meant to also mention that I did not lose weather, news, or any other app that I can see.

I lost remote start functionality until I reactivated “engine start” as an option in climate control options. No real issues other than needing to reset my “Sport Individual” options.

Over the top compelling? No, your BMW will still get you from point A to B. But considering modern cars resemble cell phones more and more when it comes to how their software works, if you update your cell phone regularly, in general you should keep you car up to date as well for similar reasons, including security enhancements and feature improvements. Also, BMW could make the updates mandatory - but not sure if it will come to that yet.

The only down side to factory updates is that sometimes BMW removes features that can't be turned back on via coding - but you never know if/when that will happen. One such instance on the X7 was the loss of remote climate control for the front passenger seat. A similar thing also happened to the previous generation M3 (which I own), which is why my M3 is still running 2018 software, but I won't update to the latest for that reason.

Nope. In my past experience with the G05 iDrive 7 and the updates every other week in early 2019-2020 it’s typically one step forward two steps back if you were having problems. Every firmware update seems to introduce unforeseen issues you didn’t have before or don’t want after the update.
My advice is if your vehicle is operating perfectly don’t update. I’m passing on this one. I never have to manually reboot my iDrive and that is a sign of everything‘s working perfectly in my world. I am still pissed off about losing the Android digital key option that worked perfectly for me.

Any reason why it makes sense to take away that option? I would understand if there is some legal issue and they decided to remove it but I can't fathom that's the case here. Bizarre that they would remove options.

I do notice that the remote start now is different. It doesn't necessarily start the engine. It really just starts the climate. If the climate runs long the engine will kick in like auto start stop. I really don't like this. I assume it's just draining battery until it needs a charge. What is bmw doing?

That would suck. I use Remote Start more to warm up the engine, and not so much for climate control…

Remote start works perfectly fine (with the engine). It’s just that after the update, the option to use the engine is unchecked in climate control settings. Mentioned this above in my previous post as well.

Make sure you have the "starting engine for clim. Control" checked in pre-condition and ventilation settings.
