After upgrading my car to 03/2021.50, I can no longer access any of the apps (drive recorder, etc.) and the BMW store is greyed out. It seems that the car is no longer connected. I have rebooted the iDrive several times but it makes no difference. Any ideas?

swissguy I bet you only have to wait a bit, it will "recover" to normal eventually. Sometimes it needs one drive, sometimes it takes overnight.

I upgraded to 03/2021.50, this weekend; luckily Assited Driving View and few other custom sttings done did not disappear. But some of the simpler settings were reset, requiring bimmercode apps to reactivate.

03/2021 software caused a # of strange issues on my car.
After the dealer updated the car to 03/2021 in June, the app started to show the car as unlocked and windows/doors open when it is locked and closed. It also started to give me an oil level unknown warning and would not measure oil through the idrive interface.

Car spent 2+ weeks at the dealer as they worked with BMWUSA on it. They said they did the idrive reboot and factory reset numerous times but didn't fix it. They replaced the oil level sensor and that didn't fix it either. They updated to 07/2021 but issue persisted.
Then they disconnected the main battery for an hour, that cleared up the oil level unknown warning but still would not allow us to measure oil, and after driving some miles the oil level unknown popped back up.

In the end, BMW told them to disconnect all 3 batteries and leave it disconnected for a few hours. After they did that, idrive now allows us to measure oil and the oil level unknown message has gone away.
I still get message that the car is unlocked or windows/doors are open in the app every few days, but I can live with that for now.

I have version 03/2021.30 and according to the app and the main unit, there is no update available. Is this update a region-specific update?

You need to wait. It will eventually come to your car. It's not available all at once to every idrive 7 vehicle.
Could take 4 or 5 months before it's available for you.
