I hate how all his tests are focused on "drifting" its one of the least, if not the least important aspects to a car.

From what I can tell, they didnt even have it set up to the track settings. Im sure the coils were on street settings and the aero was too. Not a fair comparo unless putting it in all of its track settings

Also dont get me wrong, the porsche and the Merc are definitely superior. Not really a fair comparo to begin with. The GTS is expensive because its exclusive, not because its the fastest. Its like comparing a 911R to a 675LT because the 991R goes for 500k

Chris Harris, ever heard of full aero setting, especially in the rain?
Check the difference between the wing setting on the AMG GTR and the M4 Gts. The Gts is on street setting. This guy is clueless.

I look forward to watching this later.

For anyone who follows automotive journalism, they know Chris Harris is probably THE best automotive journalist doing anything today. Yes, he likes to drift, but the car review audience loves drifting. I'm sure his production team is somewhat into making money hence they cater to that market.

That said, if you watch some of his other stuff (ie. the GT3 RS review), he's a fantastic driver and knows how to drive a clean line (which makes sense based on his racing background).

Anyway, it probably sounds like I'm ready to blow the guy, but what I'm trying to say is don't discount the reviewer just because the GTS likely gets its ass handed to it by the other cars, and there's some dorifto going on.

Here's what 90% of the comments are going to be:
1, He had the aero settings all wrong for drifting the car
2, He did not take the car to the track which is where it belongs
3, Not a fair comparison
4, But the M4 GTS has water injection technology that's not there in any of the other cars making it genius
5, Top gear favors Mercedes and Porsche
6, Sport Auto and Auto Bild does better comparisons. Look at their comparison and not this one
7, Chris Harris used to be good but is now utter garbage

That said, I do think he was a little too harsh on the GTS.

I think he went EASY on the GTS, Chris Harris is a BMW fan boy himself, Sure he loves his P cars as well but You can tell he WANTS to love the gts but bmw just fell short. i think he is spot on with his last comment saying bmw has to try harder to compete with those other two cars.

Yes, we know, the GTS is a great car if, if, if.

But we can all save ourselves a lot of GTS if-work if we buy a GT R or GT3 RS instead.

Seriously, this guy has become a clown. I used to really value his reviews but he has become a ratings whore. I have all three of those cars, and although performance wise the GTS is likely number three, it is not by much (RS has unbelievable handling). All those cars have a completely different character, GTS is wicked fun and definitely is in the same league as the other two.

The bashing seems to never end with the GTS

http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars...s-or-amg-gt-r/

This is where BMW finds itself in hostile territory. Because deep below all the cool stuff that makes it so nice, the M4 is just the fast version of a two-door 3-Series. And there's nothing wrong with that. Yet when the M people tried to turn it into a club racer, all they ended up with is a highly boosted engine featuring water injection, and a very stiff suspension that makes the GTS barely useable as a street car on the UK's bumpy roads. Which you could live with, as there's a reason you went for the cage option.

Except it isn't, because in the end, this pricey, ultra limited-edition M4 is just not that fast. And certainly not GT R fast, let alone GT3 RS fast. At which point, the whole adjustable splitter/golden cage package becomes professionally applied mascara, no more.

Agree it is not special and likely will never be special in my opinion. BMW needs to define their priorities and plan accordingly. Trying to squeeze a track car out of the F8x chassis would never work because it is over powered in stock form let alone a modified power plant. They need to work on putting the power down as opposed to increasing power. A 911 GTS will kill the M4 GTS and it's not a track car. enough said.

I still think this is an odd comparison. GT3 RS and M4 GTS are in completely different price brackets. Even the standard GT3 with no cost options starts at several grand over an M4 GTS. I won't comment on the MB penismobile as I have no idea what it sells for.

to me they are somewhat comparable.

the difference between a $140k and $170k car is less than a $15k vs $30k car

You cannot get a new 2017 GT3 RS for Less than $230,000 today (I checked and it would be a used one at that price). You can however get a new M4 gts for $135,000 (or less). That is close to a $100,000 difference between the two. That is enough for a free M4 vert with all the options.
Not in the same league price wise. Stupid review. Harris is also incredibly full of himself. Cannot stand the guy...
