It's not exactly what I hoped for, but hey, still not too shabby.

There are probably multiple possible ways. It's soft enough to just roll off the third row.
Moved by the third row on its own. Probably if one could fix it somehow to the seats, it could be set&forget but not sure about squeezing it in between the seats and plastic covers is a good idea: Rolled over seats (eventually over stuff in a trunk) Just rolled off the seats: I would rather have a full cover (leather included) but the time of waiting for something (Canvasback looked promising but the fact it's made out of many pieces it's kinda misses the point) and the need to move dogs and other stuff, I come across this and saw around 35$, were the reasons to give it a try. Btw: There is no adhesive or velcro at the bottom, just rubber spikes which holds it in place quite well. |

Weathertech behind 2nd row with bumper protector
I guess it depends on what we’re carrying. For building materials/liquids I don’t trust upholstery to protect as well as plastic. For animals it seems fine.
I got the Weathertech behind 3rd row, which is there most of the time for daily use (we have 3 kids and one child is in the 3rd row, while the seat next to him is down for more cargo). Great job protecting from grocery/lunchbox spills, dirty cleats, etc. I also have the Weathertech behind 2nd row with the bumper protector that I swap-in when I want to haul more stuff (building materials, cement blocks, etc.). I like the thick plastic and lip that contains spills. Awesome protection. Also like the bumper protector that protects the lower hatch and rolls-up when not needed (with velcro tie). It is thinner than the mat itself, but does a good job while remaining pliable. I dislike that this setup does not protect the leather rests of the third row. We don’t have dogs so don’t care to protect the upholstery behind the 3rd row from pet hair/dander, but the expensive stitched leather of the 3rd row requires care when placing building materials. In addition, the leather gets dusty from the building materials. My ultimate setup would be Weathertech-level protection but that covers the leather bits of the 3rd row. A single design that would adapt to behind 2nd vs 3rd row on-the-go would be awesome but none of the options I’ve seen does it all… |

Canvasback
We were very happy with our canvasback purchase. It covered the third row and more importantly did not require any effort when the third row was in use. We liked it enough to order one for our Volvo XC90 - also got their dog bag and duffle. More details on our google review with pic.

Can’t say enough about the canvas back system. Offers the most coverage I could find. High quality product excellent customer service. Also as an owner of a Yukon in CO house the best part is that the system stays in tact with the raise of 3rd row seats which most other systems require a change of mats. We are super happy with ours. Pic of third row up and down. Pics of side protection won’t load but they fit great

I bought this after your original post, and agreed—for me it’s functionality is good and I wanted to cover the whole back area, arm rests included. The look not so great, but I only need it for certain circumstances. The thing I do like is that it folds up pretty small and fits in the lower compartment of the cargo area.

They have a Captains option, it's no different than the bench option. Fastens same, covers same. I just ordered it, it's a great option, and maintains the levers and functionality of everything. Great option for those who actually use the car as a daily with a family. |

Just installed my canvasback today veery happy with it. Install is a little tricky for our car because of the taped velcro, but it works well once in.
I feel like I can just throw whatever back there without worry now. |

So when you ordered the X7 cargo liner and specified second row captains they shipped covers for the second row?

So, in a nuttshell, none of the various products discussed in this thread will covered the 3rd row leather armrest when the 3rd row seats are down. Terrible design by BMW

Yeah, I was puzzled by that too. So I just carry some blankets in the subtrunk and cover 3rd row armrests when I have cargo there. Not fancy, but does the job.

Looks like there haven't been any irl pictures of the 3d cargo liner posted yet. Here are some from my car. It doesn't cover the tailgate carpet. The flap design works well. It expands when folding down the third row and automatically folds again when bringing up the 3rd row, you never need to touch it.
The very back of the mat does have a lip. It would be better without the lip but ultimately it's a pretty minor issue. When you're sliding items (larger boxes, ikea furniture, water bottle packs, etc.) from the tailgate into the trunk, you have to make sure they start going over the lip. Fortunately the edge of the tailgate provides a good pivot point to make that easier; for longer boxes like ikea furniture it basically happens automatically due to the weight hanging off the tailgate. The 24-40 water bottle packages are the most annoying since they're heavy but short, so you can't pivot them on the tailgate edge, you have to actually lift them over the lip. |

Can you tell me where you ordered this from? This was the design I was looking for which was similar to my previous GL550 and it worked great by automatically folding when the seats went up and down! Last edited by X7M50_2021; 03-11-2023 at 05:51 PM.. |
