I think the question here is not really just about sound, but how much better will this M2C be out of the box? If it's marginally "better" who cares? I know there is more tuning potential, and for those (A relatively small few) for whom it matters it will make a difference. I am not in the tune or track crowd. I bought my M for carving up curvy roads, so to me, this M2C thing really is a nothingburger. Just a further evolution of a really great car.

Probably the best sounding 6cylinder out there. Plus supercharged cars sound better than turbo to begin with.
The only problem is that it costs more than an M2 and isn't as fast as my 135 was stock.

If it were a little faster it would be worth the coin because the sound is pure sex. Better than the S55 by light years, better than the N55, hell, better than anything in the road just about.
..... except that the Jag isn't nearly as practical, but I generally agree with the point you are making.

Yes, it is important, just not more important than the sum of many other performance improvement, which I felt some had lost perspective of. Or maybe it is all they hang on. As stated in the OP, sound is important to me, but my observations have proved that there is room for compromise.

N55 to S55, BBK are not nothingburgers in my book. I would be happy with either an M2 or M2C, but since I wasn't in a hurry, and waited, I see no reason to not go for the M2C. The sound alone is not keeping me from it, that is for sure.

BTW, if you look at history, and resale value of the e46 M3 for example. The ZCP's (aka Competition Pkg) are quite a bit more desirable, and on the e46 M3 it was far more a nothingburger. Wheels, springs, steering rack, minor upgrade in brakes. Same engine, same seats.

Lol I used to do something similar when I was a kid. Putting a crushed soda can or water bottle in between the rear reflector and the tire makes some nice sound

Classic in every way. I am pretty sure sound is part of it.
