Front License Plate Ticket

On my way back from Montauk today and as I was passing through East Hampton, a cop pulls out in front of me. I keep my distance of about 200 feet. Cop pulls over only to pull out behind me and pull me over. Issues me a ticket for no front license plate although I have mine displayed in the window (which im aware is not legal, but I mean cut me a break). Cop then proceeds to tell me to go to BMW and buy a bracket. I had the plate in the window for a year with no problem. Cop did a fine job protecting and serving the community. The ticket that I was issued says, "no front license plate displayed" so I'm pleading not guilty to try and beat it. Douchebag ruining my Montauk trip.....

UPDATE 5/11
So I went all the way out to East Hampton to fight this ticket and landed up getting it dismissed by the DA. The fine was initially $185, which is almost the maximum ($200) NYS allows towns to charge for the violation. Figures East Hampton would be greedy. It was logged as a num plate display violation which is not an equipment violation so it is not referred to as a "fix it" ticket, as I was told by the cop. I showed the DA that I had fixed it and she dismissed it. Guess I had a lucky day.....

Go get a front tow hook license plate bracket the on that wilazn and panda have. They will drop the ticket. Simply leaving the plate in the window only catches more attention IMO. G luck

I guess its all about luck, I've never gotten around to getting the tow hook yet, but I've had my plate in my window for a year, and got pulled over once for it, but we talked, and just told me to get the plate mounted.

I don't have holes in my bumper, so my story is I'm waiting for bmw to receive a special order bracket and they'll put it on : idk

Either way, good luck

Gotta pay to play. You break the law then you have to except the chance of getting a ticket. IMO, having the plate in your window just brings more attention to the fact you don't have it mounted in the right spot. If you don't have it mounted they may assume you're from out of state or something. I had mine off for 3 years and only got one ticket at around the 3 year mark. I didn't have mine displayed anywhere I just kept it under my floormat so I can show it if they thought the plate was stolen or something.

i dont get why drilling it to the front of the car is that bad?

i understand its not the most attractive, but its the law. why not just follow the rules and not deal w/police officers?

Probably for the same reason you have window tint, it looks much better.

This, looking to get a new front bumper soon, either way, im sure not gonna just accept .

You do have to pay to play. I also agree its like window tint, it looks better. Its really the persons decision on whether or not it looks good or not.

But to the OP, once again good luck

Yea I got one of these about a year ago but just paid it and never put the plate on.

I haven't gotten pulled over for it since then but I live in Philly 2/3 of the year.

Get out of my thread.

Any cop who pulls over someone for no front plate and that's it, is quite simply a douchebag. I'd rather see my tax dollars go towards cops who pull over wreckless drivers weaving in/out of traffic and endanger the public. Someone hit me about a month ago and it took a cop 2 hours to show up. When you actually need one, they're not around.
-----

It sucks that NY requires both plates. There really should just be a common standard for all states. I believe in Mass all you need is 1, either the front or the back. Correct me if I'm wrong.

no, offense is still the same, they can pull you over for it regardless of how perfect you are driving, but now inspection stations no longer check for them.

I dont see what the issue is, NY requires a front and rear license plate, I got it on my ride, dont need the aggravation. The law is what it is, even if we dont agree, if you know it was not legal why put yourself in that situation?, and then have the nerve to complain about a ticket. The "douchebag" was doing his or her job, you were not doing yours.
